Lapband to sleeve revision done oct 3

Recommended Posts

How long was the surgery? How long did you stay in the hospital after your procedure? I'm having my revision in December - I've had the band for almost 10 years. Sucks.

Hi Timarland,

I totally understand where you are at. I had the lapband for 14.5 years until my revision this week.

I was surprised how short the stay was in the hospital. I checked in at 9:30 am on Tuesday and surgery was at 11:30 am. I stayed one night and the let me go home at 7:30 am the next day. It has been so different from the lapband and so far I love it.:)

Thanks for the quick response! Did you do a liquid diet for 2 weeks pre-surgery? I travel every week for work, so I'm not enthused about having to take shakes on planes and what not...

Sounds like you're doing great though - I'm looking forward to getting this band removed - I'm down +/- 50 lbs from my highest weight pre-band, but I'm stuck there. I can't eat most lean meats, no fibrous veggies, but if they tighten the band more, I can't eat. I've learned to eat plenty of high calorie soft foods though :(

I'm not excited about the surgery, but excited for something new and different.

Hi Timarland,

My doctor required a 10 day pre op diet. I truthfully Only did it about five days. I only have about 50 pounds to lose. I lost over 100 lbs with the lapband years ago and kept it off. But in an extremely unhealthy way. I had not been able to get Water down for years but I could drink soda. I ate lots of chips and queso and other fatty foods. I couldn't get vegetables down. Sometimes I couldn't even get my own saliva down.:(

Even though I'm only on post op day 4 I feel I have had more Protein and water than I ever have with the band. I'm a newbie with the sleeve but so far I like it. I think you will too.:)

Yeah - this is totally me - not the 100 lbs, but I can eat all kinds of shitty foods at scale and not get sick - but put a lean chicken breast and broccoli in my mouth and I'm instantly sick. No salad, not much fruit - basically, most healthy stuff.

Glad to hear you're doing well with healthier foods, even so soon out from surgery.

How was the port removal? I've read some threads on here that surgeons had to 'hack' them out of the abdominal wall. Doesn't sound too fun...

I'd also be interested in how your energy level is for the next couple of weeks. I think I'll be able to avoid plane travel for work for the first couple of weeks, but suspect I'll be on a lot of conference calls and video presentations. I've read that a lot of other people here are just really pooped for the first 5-6 weeks.

I just had my revision done on 9/25. I did a two week liquid diet and was in the hospital for two overnights. Surgery only took 1.5 hrs. My surgeon said there was minimal scar tissue and my liver had nicely shrunken so it made it go faster. I work from home and was able to start working again by the end of the week but only for a few hours. Last week I worked all week but had to take breaks and nap in the afternoon. Today is my first day back full time and so far I have a ton more energy. I even went back to my morning walks although only 2 miles today instead of my usual 3.

Lap band to sleeve here too, but my band was removed in Feb. And my sleeve surgery is Nov. 1.

My biggest band issues were that my port kept (painfully) tearing off of whatever it was attached to. It got to where I was terrified to hardly move let alone exercise.

I'm excited and looking forward to this next chapter.

Wait - while you had your band in, the port kept coming loose? That's terrifying.

Yes. It is very painful when it tears off the muscle wall it's attached to. I think it was from running and too much vigorous "bedroom play time"... Little by little it Jarred loose and was hanging upside down so that the doctor could not even access it for fills.

You're going to LOVE your sleeve!!! I had the exact same story as you! Couldn't eat anything healthy which made it so hard to lose no matter how hard I tried. I've been sleeved 3 months, and have lost 50 lbs!!! Down to 181 as of today. I love it. I actually get to fell FULL!! I can eat whatever I want which has really allowed me to put all the nutritional information I've learned over the years into place! You obviously still have to make good food choices. That goes without saying. But it's amazing how easy it is to lose weight!!!

I was banded for 7.5 years, and my surgery was actually pretty rough. I has so much scar tissue all around my stomach, liver, and spleen that it ended up taking 5 hours and really had a lot of internal bleeding. My recovery was really hard but I'd do it all over again in a heartbeat.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
