Gastric Bypass revision....did I fail?

Recommended Posts

About 4 years ago I made what I thought was going to be the best decision and had gastric bypass surgery. Everything went great! At the time I was about 260 and within the first year lost close to 90 pounds. I was feeling healthy, fit and excited about life.

Slowly over the next couple years life got back in the way. I fell back into old habits, I was snacking all the time, eating things I shouldn't and before I knew it I was back to 220. I felt like a failure. I was given this opportunity to get healthy and blew it. I wasn't feeling full easily and was back on the diet yo-yo that I had done for most of my adult life.

Last week I had an endoscopic gastric revision. They were able to add a few stitches to shrink my pouch and the opening from my stomach to intestine so that I feel full longer. I feel great again. Today I started eating some soft food, in small amounts and am down 15 pounds. I've been given a second chance but am still so worried that those old habits will come back. Now is the easy stage where you don't feel hungry and are so limited on what you can eat, but what do I do when I'm fully recovered. How do you keep the weight off? How do you stay motivated knowing there are certain things you should just really never eat again? Any advice on truly changing lifestyles is greatly appropriated!!

I'm 6 weeks Post RNY... I'm scared to death, that I'm going to fail. I have only lost 37 lbs. I am walking 5 to 10 miles a day on a treadmill I no longer have diabetes , high bood pressure or acid reflux. I am happy about that. I feel out of control when it comes to food!

i comand your effort for not giving up. At the end of the day your just hitting the reset!

Good luck!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
