Heart burn?/ chest pain? Right after surgery!

Recommended Posts

Hello! I just had my surgery on October 2nd 2017. I finally have the proper nausea pills to save me from constant throwing up while in the hospital. I stayed two nights.

Well all during the day today I felt great everything was feeling good I felt good and I was trying to rest less and just get up every hours or half hour-

Well- whenever I get up and take a little sip of Water ice cold or room temp. My chest starts hurting. Like really bad heartburn. It will come on and off for the next minute and then finally stop. I have had this chest pain since surgery and none of the pain meds affect it.

It’s right between my breast- feels like under my breast plate and ribs. It is lightly red, it’s not hot to the touch.

Thanks everyone!!

Is this normal? Heartburn? From everything??Image1507198683.919062.jpg

I think that heartburn is a real problem for a lot of people after surgery. Did your surgeon put you on Prilosec (Omeprazole) after surgery? I received medication for acid reflux in my IV for the entire time that I was in the hospital, and I never had any issues. I was on a course of Omeprazole for about a month afterward, and never had issues. I started having issues after I stopped. coffee and spicy foods were the worst. I started taking a Tbsp of Apple Cider Vinegar with the mother every morning, stopped eating spicy foods, and that seemed to have done the trick. I haven't had any issues in a few weeks, and haven't needed to lean on the medication.

If you are not on a PPI, you can get it over the counter for a reasonable price. Otherwise, you should probably consult with your doctor as there might be underlying issues.

I hope you feel better soon.

Thank you. They did not prescribe me any type of heart burn medication. I am going to call their office when they open and see if they recommend and over the counter one for me to get. Because it makes it difficult to want to drink

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
