Flying to different location

Recommended Posts

Has anyone flew in to a different location besides San Diego? It’s actually cheaper to fly to Los Angeles from Mississippi. My surgery isn’t until March 2018 at Mexico Bariatric Center.

My surgery was in Cabo, so I flew right into there. Mine was at Bariatric Mexico.. Dr. Garcia... little different than yours but close to the same name. lol

I was in LA County prior to surgery in Tijuana so I took the Amtrak train to San Diego. The San Diego train station is only 2-3 miles from the San Diego airport so it was no big deal for my surgeon’s driver to pick me up there after he picked up a couple of other patients at the airport.

The closest Amtrak station to LAX is Union Station in downtown Los Angeles. There is a special shuttle bus called the LAX Flyaway connecting Union Station and LAX, and it is pretty inexpensive. It also runs frequently except in the very early morning hours.

Note that it’s about a 3 hour journey from Amtrak Union Station (LAX) to the San Diego Station.(SAN), and the train is sometimes late, so you would probably have to fly in from Mississippi pretty early as most Mexican bariatric centers want people to arrive in San Diego by noon.

I priced tickets to fly to Los Angeles and it’s way cheaper but that’s like 2 hours from San Antonio. I’m just going to fly out to San Diego and call it a day. Always trying to find a cheaper option. Lol

When was your surgery? I’m excited and nervous all at the same time. I haven’t told my parents. Although I’m 31, I don’t think they will agree. So I kinda want to tell them, then again no.

My surgery was in July. I didn't tell any friends or family except my co-workers. I have a really judgmental family and my coworkers are amazing I see them every day and they're extremely supportive. My kids my fiance and my co-workers know and that's it

So what have family members been asking because I’m sure they’re nosy. Lol.. and I live alone so I hope I don’t need any extra help. I plan on taking a week, almost 2 weeks off work so hopefully that will be enough time.

Well I started the Keto diet before surgery and lost like 20 lbs so everyone is just assuming that's what I'm still doing... Which is true.. I'm just not including the limited portions into the detail to them

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
