Had surgery Tuesday 10/3 came home today 10/4. The gas pain is real guys so is the soreness and nausea, managing pain with narco hope to be off that by Friday. Everything tastes sweet, even Water, can't imagine having to start Protein Shakes tomorrow... one day at a time. Praying for everyone to have safe and effective surgery and full quick recovery.

Also eyes are super blurry 🙃

The beginning is the roughest. I don't miss it at all. I was miserable after surgery. It was really tough for me. It took me like 3 weeks before I was finally feeling normal again. One month til I was like back to myself completely i'd say. My pain was mostly from my incisions. I couldn't stand up straight and I had to hold my abdomen for a solid 3 weeks to feel support and able to do things. I drank 1-2 Protein Shakes a day, the rest was broth in a coffee mug but I mainly drank Vitamin Water zero and diet snapple to keep me going and sugar free popsicles were my treat. I have gotten so used to vitamin water zero and diet snapple that the regular ones taste sooo sweet now and I don't like them as much.

You get stronger and stronger each day! Good luck! Walk the gas pain off. I didn't really experience that kind of pain...just literal physical pain from surgery.

There's going to be days where you cry in regret but once recovery passes, and you start losing weight, you will be so happy!

I had my surgery on 10/3 as well. I was discharged yesterday, and today I’m allowed to move from Clear Liquids to the next stage. My only real pain has been the gas, but this morning I woke up with tightness in my chest. I made myself cough a lot, and it seems to have subsided.

I think today I’ll need to try some of that Vitamin Water zero and diet Snapple.

I also noticed that everything tastes super sweet. I’m used to having a Splenda with my tea, and I had to dump it and go without. I also couldn’t get the pro stat Protein down because the vanilla flavor was just too sweet.

It feels good to know I’m kinda on a normal track. Good luck to us all!

Yay! Glad everyone is doing okay. Keep sipping. Try popsicles and alternate with warm tea or broth.

I was sleeved on Monday, 10/2. You're not lying. This gas pain is probably worse for me than the actual spot the pulled everything out of! I will be glad when this part is over!

I was sleeved 10/2 and the gas pains just began easing up today. Having trouble getting my fluids and Protein in (and all those yummy protein waters are now disgusting). Short term pain for long term gain though. Glad to hear your surgery went well.

I had my surgery 10/4.... came home 10/5 on clears... I can’t get even one sip down without feeling pressure....

I feel the same was sleeved 10/4/17 also. First sip of Water when I came home I had dry heaves... horrible. I still have quite a bit of pain & am trying not to use the pain medication.

When I sip anything I can feel the pain in my stomach as it goes down. Nervous to drink too much or too little.

Anyone have suggestions?

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
