Five sleeps to my Thursday morning (12th Oct) gastric sleeve surgery.

Have reached the stage after 3.5 weeks of so much Liquid Protein that I got to 9pm tonight and pretty much had to force myself to consume the last two shakes of the day.

It's coming up 11pm Saturday now and I've had 2.5 shakes, a pot of tea, two litres of tap Water and a bowl of stir fried veggies.

I have no room left. I think I'll just go to bed.

After surgery I was having what my doctor called was mental hunger. After being sleeved the task is to recondition the mind about food. As my doctor explained it the portion of your stomach that is removed creates the chemical that causes hunger.

Listen to your body.. Is your mind telling you, you've gotta eat or are you feeling weak, having stomachache (hunger cramps)?
I kept my mouth busy by chewing ice, that kept my mind distracted.
You can make it...

Thank you! Im pretty sure its probably in my head! I haven’t felt faint or cramps so im thankful for that! Eating ice might be a great idea! I have still been going strong! Thanks for the encouragement

I know all doctors are different, but mine didn't require any pre-liquid diet, only the day before. However, I heard some doctors giving out month long liquid diets before surgery. D:
I chose to do a week of liquids before my surgery (for my own peace of mind and to prepare myself) which is tomorrow, and I know how you feel. What helped me, was switching it up and doing my own little recipes - I'd combine red and green Jello or chicken broth with Tomato Soup. Weird, I know, but I've a low expectation for food (I think TV dinners are amazing lol).
Maybe this will help? :3

Thank you MichaelHigwind! I have been doing my little mixes as well especially with my Protein Shakes lol, I commend you for doing a liquid diet even though you didn’t have to, it shows how dedicated you are! I will be praying for you a successful surgery and a speedy recovery[emoji1488]

I started my liquid diet on last Sunday and Wed was day 4 for me (when you were on day 3) and I was also very miserable. I thought this whole thing was a total bust. Didn't think I was going to make it at all......and the trips to the bathroom!!! Oh, those shakes were cleaning me out for sure. I have tried Peanut Butter powder and sugar free hot choc for a "reese peanut butter" type shake. not bad. I have vanilla Protein Powder and unflavored powder. I am going to make a pumpkin smoothie this week. I am allowed very thin creamed Soups - - very thinl! I use Freelife Mile because there is alot of Protein in this as well. My surgery is the 17th. If I can make it another week, I know you can too.

So excited and nervous at the same time. I bought an incentive dress! It was only $20 and found a $3 necklace that matches, although I'm going to re-purpose it as part of the belt. (I'm going to be petting that thing for motivation this next 2 weeks ha ha)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
