So fed up and pissed off

Recommended Posts

I did all the steps, seminar, all the classes, psych eval and got down to goal wt to be told I can't get scheduled for surgery until I stop breastfeeding and my milk is completely dried up! I feel like I wasted a bunch of gas and time. Why wasn't I told this months ago!? This process was just one day!!! I'm so f.....irritated!

Why do you have to quit nursing? How old is the baby?

I would not give up nursing, surgery can wait. I don't understand the reasons, other than lack of nutrition for you to produce milk.

Other moms have continued to nurse, I would want to see the evidence that says you have to quit prior to surgery. I am a b***h that way - and former LLL Leader, so I would be the tiger momma. A lot of physicians are ignorant of the breastfeeding relationship. You would need to pump n dump because of anesthetic. Are they going to make you show that you have quit by trying to express milk? (I sound angrier than you lol)

You have to take in a daily amount of calories to maintain adequate milk supply for the baby. The 500 calories that we will be doing post-op isn't enough.

If you decide to wean, you'll be dry in 1-2 weeks if you stop abruptly. I highly suggest stuffing raw green cabbage leaves into your bra while you are drying up.

If you taper off, it'll take a good month but is more comfortable.

I never think it's a good idea for people to breastfeed through surgery... your nutritional status DOES impact the quality of your milk.

So either delay surgery, or begin weaning.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
