Air fryer!!!

Recommended Posts

I invested in an air fryer last week and it works amazing! I think it's a must have for gastric surgery patients. It makes great grilled chicken!

I just looked up what it was and the recipes look delish! Only question is, don’t we only eat such a tiny tiny amount of food anyhow? I’m only 1 week post op- but got the impression that our stomachs aren’t going to be larger enough to consume more than 4 Oz anyhow.. I definitely loved fried food ...

Thank you for the positive feedback on this. I couldn't quite make up my mind about the air fryer, but I have now. There are several out there, May I ask which one you purchased? Thank You!!

I have a family of 4 so I can cook for the whole family and eat the portion I am able.
I went with the 5.3 quart air fryer xl. It's the one they advertise on tv for $180 but my wife bought it from bed bath and beyond on sale for 119 plus 20% off coupon. :)

I bought the Pro XL i think it's called from BB&B. I bought the smallest one just for two people but still too big! I love it!

I just bought one myself so I could try a few things out before surgery and chicken in the fryer is the most moist I've ever had! No breading required for crispy skin either (if you have others eating with you that can still have it!)

I also love my air fryer! There are so many different things you can make in it!! I got mine from my work and bought the large one since I have a family. It is the Cooks Companion brand.

Dash makes a very nice, small 1-2 person air fryer. You can find it on Amazon or even HSN. I went with the Cook Essentials 3.4 qt and love it very much. I love air frying my Kale chips, sweet potato chips, souffles, wings and even my bacon. Plus, it doesn't use nearly as much energy as stove or oven, so it is more efficient on the ol' electric bill per month!

Ok y'all...is it REALLY like fried food? I've been on the fence...I want one of these and an instant pot, but dayum...I've got small appliances coming out of my ass! Literally! Out. OF. MY. ASS!!! Am I yelling?

But at night, these 2 little cooks' helpers whisper my name and croon to me to buy them and make them mine...

Is the air fryer TRULY worth it? Or will I feel used and abused by morning?

Okay I love my airfryer. Now I got the huge one because well family of four over here. lol I actually was able to purchase it from my work with a pretty decent discount and have had it for over a year. I love the thing there is so much you can do with it. chicken wings are my favorite out of it!! And it has a rack that came with it so I can even cook meats in there. I dont think it tastes exactly like deep fryed stuff but its damn close and with surgery coming up a much healthier option if you crave that crisp!

So if you had to choose only one item, being post surgery...and ease of swallowing...would you choose the instant pot or air fryer as the most needed addition to you kitchen? I just keep hearing "moist, moist, moist" and I'm a crunchy, crunchy, crunchy mama! :D

An InstantPot means you can get rid of all of the crock pot(s), rice maker, and steamers you have. More room in the pantry for an air fryer!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
