DropWt4Life 957 Posted October 4, 2017 I started drinking Decaf at week 2. I still mostly drink it, although some days I have regular. I find that I have more acid reflux issues when I drink regular coffee. I don't know if it is more acidic or not. I heard that cold-brews don't irritate the stomach as much. Has anyone heard that? jess9395 5,449 Posted October 4, 2017 All I can tell you is what I did to prove that coffee does have an effect upon my hydration status. I can only speak to what works for me. My Dr. told me to stay away from coffee because it aggravates the stomach more than the dehydration arguments.Yes the acid can definitely irritate some people's stomachs and that's Decaf as well. Cold brew is much less acidic.

But please don't put it out there as a generalization. As you say in this post, that is you, your previous post didn't make that clarification. That's how these urban myths are perpetuated. The science shows that for the population as a whole coffee and caffeine in general do not impact hydration. Individuals may vary of course, but that is the exception. Lasairfina 3 Posted October 6, 2017 I started drinking cold brew about a week after surgery. I gave up eating and cigarettes, you pry my caffeine from my cold, dead hands!I do drink a lot less though. One cup of coffee or one non-carbinated energy drink a day.Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using BariatricPal mobile app
AnA92212 577 Posted October 13, 2017 My husband started coffee about a month out. To be fair, we had a newborn at the time so he was really sleep deprived. It took me about six month before I had caffeine. Our surgeon said a year, but I had a tiny baby, was working full time, and in grad school. I needed something. Only one cup a day and only 1 mini-moo of half and half (it's 10 calories).

JeffN 106 Posted October 14, 2017 I found that coffee increases acidity an can cause digestive issues. I drank over two pots a day before surgery and have not drank any since.
