I was cleared to drink caffeinated coffee at 3 months. I started with 1 cup a day at the 3 month mark, did fine with it. Now at over 10 months out, I drink 2-3 cups a day with no problems.

If you drink a coffee you need to drink two times the amount of Water. Coffee dehydrates you. I drank a pot and a half per day and now I really don’t crave it. Converted all my coffee contraptions to do tea.

Also, if you are just craving the flavor of a good cup of coffee, you can go with Decaf. That is what I did for the first couple of months before going to regular coffee.

We are allowed caffeine as soon as we start getting in 64 Oz of Fluid per day. I enjoyed my 1st cup on about day 10.

Now, I usually have Decaf, but sometimes I get regular if I don't feel like making a pot.

BTW, is there such a thing as good decaf?

Actually the coffee being dehydrating is an urban myth. Studies have disproven that.

What does your plan say? Some doctors allow it soon others never. You trusted your doctor to operate on you, literally cut you open, you should probably trust their dietary advice.

All I can tell you is what I did to prove that coffee does have an effect upon my hydration status. I can only speak to what works for me. My Dr. told me to stay away from coffee because it aggravates the stomach more than the dehydration arguments.

As a food and coffee addict I can tell you that the longer I stay off coffee the better I will be. I have no problem going to sleep and I feel great when I wake up. You might want to look at Teeccino. I have heard a lot of people say it is really good and is very similar to coffee in taste.

I added coffee after my 3rd month... always check with Doctor.. so far no issues at all. I get a grande cap with extra shot of espresso everyday.. of course I drink it within 2 1/2 hours or 3

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
