I hear people from Mexico dont get any plan but if it were me before they cut me open i would make sure i have an idea of what im supposed to be eating if there is a language barrier the surgeon can go onto an english website and print something off we have to be pro active.

I have seen a post-op plan on every Mexico Surgeons site. People get plans they just ignore them and don't follow them.

The person I know from my program was saying she didn't know what to eat, but they gave us a shopping list, and a book about what to do post op, plus several packets. When we had orientation, people were not paying attention, talking to their family or asking how soon they could had a piece of buttered toast. People just don't pay attention.

I have seen people that had Dr Now as a surgeon online asking what to eat.

Most of the time when people are asking what to eat, they want someone to co-sign them eating something they shouldn't.

This is the link to some of the post-op information provided by my plan.

Hopefully someone pre-op reads this post, but if your surgeon doesn't have a clear post-op plan and path for you that they provide before surgery. DO NOT let them operate on you. Before I had surgery I had a clear plan of how to eat for 6 months after surgery until I healed.

An average plan consists of Week One - liquids popsicles, Jello, broth including clear Protein Drinks aiming for minimum of 60 gr Protein for women and 64oz of Water every day always. Week Two - full liquids - cream Soups, etc but same goals of protein and water. Week Three - add some texture like blended cottage cheese, still using shakes to get adequate protein. Maybe refried beans....Week Four - soft foods - scrambled eggs, etc.
It just progresses as you heal and tolerate texture and solids after chewing and chewing. Sometimes it takes longer to tolerate certain foods.
And after you can tolerate more and more solids always stop liquids 30 minutes before eating and at least 30 minutes after eating.
You can find all this on these forums by using the search function and putting ' food stages post-op ' in the bar.

Thank you so much...I appreciate the info.

Your hearsay info is totally incorrect. I was given a very detailed food plan and post-op diet requirements from my Mexican surgeon. I selected a very qualified surgeon that provided excellent info and support pre and post surgery, and I’ve had no complications.

As well, my surgeon spoke great English.

Lol how's it incorrect? I've heard people say they were given no plan. Are they lying lol. Just because you have been doesn't mean all have. And I've also heard people say they to abroad and had communication barriers. No need to say what I'm saying is incorrect because its not the case for you. Its what I've heard people say here. And other places. But they must be lying seen as it wasn't the case for you lol.

What you mean is ..that was not the case for you. Which is fair enough. Doesn't mean it doesn't happen how others have described.

I did get some paper work (3 pages) with after care instructions and a 5-6 week break down to follow, but it isn’t detailed at all. It doesn’t tell you how many ounces you should have at once, or much less any brands of shakes or foods to have. Since I haven’t had any problems swallowing, or getting any liquids down. Or even having any discomfort what so after I drink, I’m scared to add things because I don’t know how much to add. So if I do have a Premier Protein drink how much of it would I drink....I’m assuming the 11 oz would be too much but I just don’t know.

My plan was detailed enough for me. Mine never said how many ounces to have or exactly what food. Just said balanced really. Never mentioned any particular brand of anything as they are not endorsed.

procedure done in Mexico with virtually no after help at all. I’m feeling so lost.

@Sophia Duran

i would contact a NUT about a necessary plan for proper eating, drinking,

all things pertaining to bariatrics. she could help set up a plan. if finances

are an issue, try and find a way to go at LEAST once, you must gather info

from NUT to help you learn about what to do next. sorry you were left

in the dark with no plan/ help PO.

There are so many docs out "their" with their own plans that OP here will talk

about. you would blow your mind trying to figure bits and pieces from here and

their to follow. if/when YOU get your own NUT - that's who you listen to ONLY.

(or me too of course)

the two things that are said by most docs etc. - get plenty to drink, as much

as you can - hopefully you'll accomplish the 64 oz you are supposed to

drink. Also get in as much Protein as you can at this early point. most docs tell

you at least 60+ grams of protein. right now, Water is the most important

of everything. you don't want to get dehydrated!!!

good luck bud

I agree that some Mexico doctors might now give a plan. Mine sure did, along with all of my medical records, a video copy of my actual procedure, and a care package with samples. My NUT emailed me detailed copies of my pre-op and post-op dietary plan in advance of my surgery. It listed examples as well. It blows my mind that a doctor would perform ANY surgery on someone without care and dietary instructions.

I used OCC and I have TONS of papers, very detailed. Even gave me a graph to check the days off. You should email them. One of the things I liked about them was their follow through, excellent history with patients, etc. We had a Dr with us all night. Bedside checks all night. And came home to another email letting me know they would be following my progress.

As for how much to consume.. you need to meet your goals. You are sipping or eating small amounts, frequently.

It can take a few hours to drink a Protein Shake. Or you could do it in 40 minutes. You have to slowly figure out how much and how quickly to go. Don't guzzle 12 ounces in 5 minutes.

I recommend looking at published postop plans from other groups. Stay within the framework that your surgeon gave, but you'll likely find more detailed descriptions elsewhere.

Oh, and I'd make an appointment with your family doctor...he/she can help with questions about stitches and anything else you are concerned about.

Dr Almanza is still doing surgeries? Is that the same guy that the US news did a story on a few years ago?

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
