Blurry eyes after surgery

Recommended Posts

I am 5 days post op and noticed yesterday when I put my contacts I noticed that when I brought my phone close to my face stuff got very small and blurry Then today I went outside and the sun was killing my eyes I don't know if it's the medicine or the lack of food or what it is but I was wondering if anyone else has had trouble with vision after surgery

Have you called your Dr Office about it?

When my diabetes corrected after surgery, my vision changed, then normalized.

I called this morning and all they said was call my eye doctor
But I had no vision problems prior to surgery

I had blurry vision after mine for a few days but it was cleared up with rewetting drops. I hope you get some answers.

If you had an anti nausea patch to help with anesthesia or other nausea causes, and if you handled it with bare hands while removing it (they usually last 2-3 days) and then touched your eyes before all trace of it was gone, it could cause those symptoms. It causes dilation and lack of focus and takes a day or so to fade. If that doesn't match your situation, I agree you should reach out to an eye doctor as soon as you can.

I never thought about that I did have the patch and took it off Sunday night with my bare hands then had to take my contacts out so this could very well be possible

I would absolutely toss those lenses if I were you. I don’t think they are salvageable unless maybe if they are hard lenses. They can keep exacerbating it. It happened to me once about a decade ago when I was on a long boat trip and I was miserable for about 24 outside of a dim room. I hope it clears quickly!

I had it for about a week post op. When I asked on my surgeons Facebook page, many reported the same thing.

When my gallbladder when bad it threw a stone and got stuck in my pancreatic duct. It caused my pancreas to back up, started digesting itself and, I had no idea what was happening, my blood sugars were in the 300's and higher. I woke up in ICU. I was unable to see properly for a month. High sugar levels caused the sugar to coat my retinas (or something along those lines, I only play a doctor on TV...lol) and effected my vision. That's the only experience I have with my vision changing dramatically. Have you checked your sugar levels?

I had the same thing happen after surgery. I was bad for the first couple of days and then it seemed to get better. I had a lot of trouble looking at my phone and transitioning from close up to far away and vice versa. It was super annoying but cleared up within 2 weeks or so.

That sounds exactly like what I'm going through I'm glad to hear it clears up

Wow! I had the same problem with my eyesite! At first I thought it was my glasses but when I took them off to look at my TV it was worse! B4 the surgery i didnt have to use my glasses but after surgery I did! I thought maybe it was the meds the Dr has me taking but fortunately its better now!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
