Early to mid September Sleevers

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I had my surgery 9/15. I'm feeling great and am pleased with my weight loss at this point in the game. This weekend I moved onto Stage 3, moist chicken, fish, scrambled egg etc. After weeks of Soups and yogurt I am very happy to be in this phase. My question to you is what and how much are you eating?

Hope you are all doing well!

Hey Staci, my surgery was 9/6, I'm eating all of the same things you are plus some pureed fruits, cooked soft mashed veggies like riced cauliflower, broccoli and spinach. I am allowed to have soft cereals and potatoes but I cut those out pre op and I'm hesitant to let them back in. Still usually have to have 1 Protein Shake, just so I'm not playing catch up with Protein at the end of the day. Having the shake also gives me room to have the veggies and fruit, otherwise it would be protein all day long. My calories have been between 800-900, I wasn't given any calorie target but that seems to be where I land each day. Surgery weight was 230 and today I was at 211.8, so seem this works for me. Who would think scrambled eggs could be such a treat. :)

Also, I log everything on my fitness pal, i'm a grazer so its easy for me to get carried away without realising it. I am eating 2oz of meat at a time. 1 egg fits nicely but i can get 2 down over about 40 mins. Veggies are usually in 1/2 c portions.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
