I love my sleeve because..?

Recommended Posts

I love my sleeve because it has cured my high blood pressure.

Your turn?

I like hearing positive things about others, some of you may know I am in the hospital at the moment, have been since last Sunday, not sleeve related so my sleeve excitement has been put in the back ground but still so happy with my sleeve, though it makes it hard when your sick as I can not drink or eat enough when feeling unwell, but I would not change it for the world so just need to remind myself of all the good things that people love their sleeve for. I also loved reading stuff like this pre sleeve to see what I may have to look forward to. :D

I love my sleeve because...

  1. It greatly reduced my hunger.
  2. It provided me with a desperately-needed reset.
  3. It addressed the hormonal aspects of my obesity.
  4. It serves as a form of Portion Control.
  5. It helped me sign a new lease on life.

That is brilliant, tell me more about the hormonal aspect? I did not know it changes hormones.

I love my sleeve because:

I no longer excessively perspire when I go on holiday somewhere hot.

I can walk much further

I don't get stuck in chairs

My grandson isn't worried anymore that I'm going to die

I can go into an ordinary dress shop and clothes fit me

I have Only lost 45 pounds so far (sleeved August 8th) but what a difference to my life already.

The sleeve favorably affects profiles of hormones related to hunger and digestion such as ghrelin, leptin, peptide YY and glp1.

I'm almost 8 months out. In the immediate pre- and post-op sleeve environment, it had a really profound effect - changing my relationship with food, getting a full-body "reset", having little to no hunger, much more energy, etc. I never had any problems with any food or drink along the way. But I have since learned the hard way, that that's not necessarily a benefit.

Over the summer I was travelling, for basically 4 weeks, and it became difficult to stay completely on track the entire time. So, occasionally at first, but then with more regularity, I started trying more foods that I've been avoiding - wraps for lunch, chai tea from Starbucks (the only thing other than regular tea that I can drink there), and other foods (mostly carbs) that I told myself were a one-time only thing (like my dad's birthday cake). But once I started introducing carbs/sugar back into my life I noticed 2 things - one, that my cravings came back with a vengeance, and that I didn't feel full or satisfied as I had in the past; and two, that my weight loss came to a complete and absolute standstill. It's clear that I can eat anything - I did not have any negative reactions to anything that I tried - therefore, I know that I will have to vigilant about food for the rest of my life. It's taken me a couple weeks to wean myself off the carbs and back into a proper diet, much harder than when I did the pre-op diet. It's been a real wake-up call for me. So I'm thankful that my sleeve (and the effects from it) is preventing any demotivating weight gain, and that I have a chance to get back on track.

I have dropped 45 pounds. 27 since sleeve 5 weeks ago. I can put my shoes on without dying. My body feels lighter. My mood is improving.

I am still hungry often however. Also I have low energy.

Things I love about my sleeve (10/17)

- have not had to take any of my medication for diabetes.

- my blood pressure was so low yesterday, they told me to stop taking the high bp med and introduce again in a few days and see if it goes down again.

- my night time snacking has come to a halt. That was my biggest issue before surgery.

- feeling of being full instead of a bottomless pit

- knowing at some point I will be under 200 is super exciting!

- if I eat too much sugar, even natural sugar, my body says nope!

SW:350 (11/2015)

BSW:260 (10/17/17)

CW:250 (officially down by 100 lbs. since the start of my journey!)

GW:175

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
