90 Days Out - Menu Ideas?

Recommended Posts

Hey out there! I'm about 90 days post-op and am in need of some menu ideas. I still can't eat much beyond a 1/4-1/3 cup of food per meal, the exception being a chopped salad. That's closer to a cup. I'm curious as to what others on a similar timeline are having for meals throughout the day. Anyone care to share?

I'm pretty boring and can only eat around 1/4 cup too. I'm interested in what others say.

I was doing a green smoothie for Breakfast but I felt like I was drinking my day away and I felt hungrier throughout the day. Weird. So I'll have eggs for breakfast. If I do Greek yogurt (Oikos Triple Zero), I put flax or chia seeds in it and some fruit. Still a Protein Shake in there. Fish. Ground turkey (taco meat, in a simmer sauce).

I need ideas too!

I was buying Oikos Triple Zero and then I foubd that Dannon Light and Fit Greek yogurt is even better for us and tastes lovely. Give it a try!

Also, Ive always been a meat eater but since meats arent doing too well in my pouch, i tried Morningstar Spicy Black Bean burger in the freezer section. Dee-lish! Ill be trying more Morningstar products. Simple ingredients, great tastes!

Right now I'm eating 150g (5oz) Skyr (high Protein yogurt) with 20g of flaxseeds and a nectarine in it.
In about 3 hours I'll have a 5 oz portion of stew (lean meat, potatoes, carrots and celery root)
3 hours later I'll have ground chicken fajitas with bellpeppers (5oz total), a little cheddar and some sour cream (No tortilla)
3 hours after that I'm having 100g of smoked salmon on a piece of Protein bread and humus
And for an evening snack I'll have 1-2 mozzarella sticks

That is around 1100-1200 kcal 112g of protein, 53g of fat and 46g of carbs

A normal day for me is usually 1-2 cold meals and 3 warm meals. I meal prep and always have my freezer stacked with 3-4 options of pre portioned 5 oz meals to take to work and heat up. Without it I know this wouldn't have worked. Almost always when I make dinner I make a larger portion, so I can freeze the rest

I found that softer foods such as chili and Soups went down much easier than harder foods such as chicken and steaks. So therefore I relied on these. I also found that mixing food groups together gave it more flavor and it brought back some of the enjoyment in eating meals. Chili and soups also allowed me to use spices in my meals. I put some recipes at the end of the following article. http://www.breadandbutterscience.com/Surgery.pdf

I did not like Protein Shakes at all. So as my meal volume increased, I was able to derive more Protein from my meals and begin to offload my reliance on protein shakes. When my meal volume increased at the end of a year and a half to 1 cup per meal, I was able to offload all my protein supplements. But this approach only works if one concentrates on consuming high protein meals.

I have a pretty standard schedule during the work week and it’s more variable during the weekend.

I start the day with a low carb Protein Shake. About 2 hours later I have a fruit or dairy serving. Siggis yogurt or some berries. Or I may have a veggie juice.

For lunch and an afternoon snack I will split a turkey burger in half and have for both meals or have chicken or turkey salad

When I get home which is usually pretty late I have Peanut Butter and sugar free strawberry preserves on a small chestnut flatbread

I also use my slow cooker and make a lot of stews that have meat and Beans.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
