Recently I've been experiencing a tremendous amount of Hair loss. I'm 4 months post op. I take my Vitamins and I'm also taking 10,000iu of Biotin. Any other recommendations? Has anyone else experienced this? Will this eventually stop?

I am pre-surgery, but from what I understand, this is very very common. Roughly 3-6 months post-op it starts so you are right in the middle. It eventually stops for most people and when it stops, from what I've read online, is something that is individual. They say don't perm or color your hair. Which is going to be hard for me NOT to color my hair! Take your Vitamins, Biotin, and make sure you get PLENTY of Protein. People who have posted or blogged about it are trying to take in close to 80 plus grams of protein. Which is more than the typical surgeon is saying to take in. Some say having a zinc or Iron deficiency will also increase Hair loss. My surgeons team said that the stress of surgery, the very few calories taken into the body the first couple months etc, cause the body to react to the low calories and shut down "unnecessary" functions. Hair growth is unnecessary to the body. This causes more of the hair shafts to go into resting phase which then causes them to eventually shed. Just google hair loss after WLS and you'll find plenty of information. There are products to use, but honestly, I have pretty good hair loss for several years due to hormone issue. Nothing topical helped stop the hair loss nor does it increase hair growth. I think the only thing would be rogaine and I hesitated using that as my body is already hormonally screwed up a bit and wasn't sure if it would work, plus I think it's life long that you use it or your hair starts falling out after you stop. Good luck, eventually it stops for most people.

My loss started at around 4 months, and tapered off at around 7 months. I think I've lost roughly half of my hair, and now I've got little inch long whispies all over the place. I don't have any Patches, you can just see a little more scalp through the hair.

Boy, I am doomed to be bald then. I have already lost almost half my hair due to hormonal issue. Add WLS surgery on top of it and YEP...I'll be a baldy!!! Thin but bald!

I've been worried enough about this. I started the Biotin about 6 weeks before my surgery date, which is next week. But I have very thin hair due to cancer from many many years ago, as it just never came back well.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
