Wrinkled steristrips, overlapping skin?

Recommended Posts

My port's steristrips aren't sticking at all on the actual wound. The first time I walked at the hospital this site bled a lot and they covered it with a bigger bandage. Unfortunately it also made the strips not stick to this cut at all. You can see the actual wound under the strips and it looks like the skin is overlapping the skin below it.... like.... instead of the skin of one side of te cut butting up against the other side, it looks to be overlapping.. I'm worried this may cause it to heal really weirdly and if notinh else, make a giant scar... Any thoughts? I hate to go in if this is normal but I don't want it to look like a giant scar of I just need it re-taped.

Did anyone else's do this? When I pull the skin tight it seems to even out okay but normally it's not so tight to fix it...

I can't answer your question because I don't get banded until 10/30. I just wanted to say congratulations :clap2:and wish you well! I hope you are feeling better and I would just give my Dr. a call and ask him/her if this is normal. Good luck!

I had a problem with my steristrips coming off the next day on my 2nd surgery. I called my doctor, they said get in a shower, peel them off, and re-apply new ones. So I got some from walgreens and re-did it (a lot prettier I might add) than they did.

Call your doc and ask them!!

Something similar happened to me when I had my gallbladder removed. The scar healed that way, with a pretty big chunk of raw-looking flesh turned outward. It took forever to heal and for quite some time it stuck out above my natural skin line ..but now (6 years later) it looks fine, can hardly tell theres a scar there at all.

I ended up removing the original steristrips in the shower as they were barely on anyways at this point from lifting up. I replaced them with new steristrips from Walgreens. It looks MUCH better and smoother now. I think it will heal better now too. It pretty much looks like my other incisions now although with cleaner strips.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
