I am 5 years out from sleeve surgery. I originally lost 80 lbs. In the last 2 years I have put on 35 lbs. I am so frustrated and need help or suggestions. I put myself on the 2 week liquids, just like after surgery, just to kind of start over fresh like I did after surgery. I am at a loss as to what to do. Should I see a nutritionist or dietician? I literally don't feel like I can drink 4-5 shakes a day plus the Water too and be able to eat. I always feel full just from the liquids! Am I crazy, is anyone else feeling this? I am 5 days into the liquids and have lost 8 lbs. I am so frazzled by this and just feel like throwing in the white towel of defeat!

For life, it's all about the calories. Most Protein Shakes are quite low in calories, that's why you've lost weight again drinking them. (The lack of carbs makes you drop Water weight too).

Fresh, real, whole food has fewer calories than food that has been premixed for you.

You need to use a kitchen scale and measure everything.

When I shop, I look for food that has 1 ingredient. I do buy canned Beans and cottage cheese that have added salt.

Weight loss food groups:

Nonstarchy vegetables (unlimited)

Starchy vegetables (limit to 7oz a day)

Fruits (limit to one fresh whole fruit a day)

Legumes (like black beans, 7 oz a day)

Nuts/seeds (limit to 1 oz a day. Very important not to guess!)

Dairy (limit to 1 or 2 servings a day. Avoid added sugars)

meat (fish is superior, limit to 3-4oz at a sitting)

Avoid grains (especially white flour) and added sweeteners.

We all have to become lay-nutritionists for ourselves. 99% of what you see for sale in the grocery store isn't really good for you. A whole isle devoted to potato chips, and another devoted to soda? Tells you something ;)

Rouchang, I understand! My surgery was 3.5 year ago, I lost 80 and I'm back up 26. Tomorrow morning, I'm starting a 10-day "re-set" that I found online. Maybe we can encourage each other?

Yes, I am struggling! I love food so much and 5 days in, I already want to just eat. Where did you find the 10 day re set?

My shakes are 100 calories each. I mainly am doing the liquids to get my stomach back down, in case I have stretched it out. I do have a scale I can measure with. Thanks for the tips, I will try them

As noted by Berry78 its all about what you eat, calories in vs out... (unless you have a medical condition). Weight your portions and prep your meals 3 days ahead, that way you cook only 2 times a week.. I would also encourage to join gym and add at least 3-4 times a week of workouts, you can start slow.. then move up gradually, it will help to burn out extra calories, speed your metabolisms, and why not? Will keep you mind away from thinking in food [emoji869]

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
