2 weeks out..not a pound lost!?

Recommended Posts

Ok, I'm beginning to think I'm the only person who will not lose weight from this!Officially been 2 weeks since my surgery, I weighed today and am the same as right before I had surgery! :( what is going on here? I keep seeing other people post about all the weight they were dropping....and I haven't lost a pound.

No complications, been walking every day, taking meds and food are within my allowed range...what gives?! Has anyone else not seen a drastic drop right away or is it just me?! :/

Completely normal. They pump you full of IV fluids at the hospital, your body is healing from surgery, it is all normal. Some people don't see a loss until maybe 4 weeks out. It will happen!

It depends on what you are eating your not supposed to eat anything mostly drinking your food like yogurt eggs, protein

Well, I think mine was a combo of the fluids + pms/period. Of course that started about 10 days after surgery, period ended yesterday and I weighed this morning and was already down 1lb, so hopefully now that's all out of the way I will see more progress :)

I am two week out tomorrow and I have not lost any since I have been home from the hospital. The day I went in to the hospital I had already lost 5 pounds from the pre-liquid diet. Then in the hospital I was down 5 more pounds. So now for the last 10 - NO LOSS. I am glad I am not the only one.

What have you been eating? or drinking, should I say?

God no not still on liquids only...who does liquids only for 17 days after!? Lol

I have a Premier Protein drink, Soup, pureed Beans, smashed avocado yogurt etc...all things that are allowed at this point. Like I said I think mine was a combination of all the fluids - I was hella swollen from hospital - and my time of the month following surgery by BARELY more than a week. I refuse to weigh daily - I would get obsessed and then depressed if it wasn't as fast as other people - but I will weigh weekly and keep track of it, so next week is next weigh in :)

I had two weeks of rapid weight loss and then a week and a half of nothing. I was concerned, but my surgeon also said not to worry about it; that hormones and Water intake make a huge difference and that day-to-day fluctuation can be more severe than we anticipate. Glad to see your numbers are starting to move! And I was on Clear Liquids for 16 days after surgery, lol.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
