Getting Closer

Recommended Posts

Well pre op is on the 12th...it is getting closer and closer...I was thinking about a lot of things which are rushing through my mind...I been really excited about this...since I heard about the procedure...I know their are going to be a lot of changes in eating habits, that is for sure lol...

What do I expect at preop...?

What do I expect the day I go in for surgery...?

Do we get to talk to the anistiseoglogist lol did I spell that wrong gees...?

Then I think of why I didn't tell my family....which includes kids, sisters...but I told friends...pondering on that one...?

I have sent a ton of friends to this site....I told them this is the best site in the world....people are very helpful and friendly....

Gas....oh gee not that I don't have a ton of it already lol hubby said,, their is no gas shortage at his house hahahahaha....and I told him just wait till surgery....he said 1 extra can of spray.....

I need to lose 70 lbs according to Doctor...umm wonder how long it takes to lose that much...adding and counting ewww ?

Why cant you have Water with food....?

I am not nervous about surgery as much...I guess because I have had four surgeries...each is different upon arrival at hospital....

Anyone been to the old Doctors hospital now called Renasiance or how ever....I loved it when it was Doctors...wondering if it has changed.....?

These are just a few thoughts anyone have any answers let me know

There are many many of these answers all over this board. Read, read, read and you'll find them and so much more all free for the taking!! There is a very recent extensive thread on why you can't drink Water when you eat. It's so that you don't wash the food on through the pouch. You want it to sit in the pouch as long as possible so that you'll feel full longer. Also, washing it through allows you to keep stuffing it, thereby eating MORE, which is why we wanted the band in the first place (to modify our volume). Happy Reading!!

Lets see...

pre-op, everything was right there in the hosp (and yes, I had my surgery at the Doctor's Hosp. too) You have to have a chest x-ray, ekg, bloodwork... I think thats all. Took about 2 hours total.

The morning of surgery the nurse anethesis should come to your room and ask tons of questions. The guy that I had was VERY comical, eased the tension. We even wondered if he had already taken a hit on the tubing... if you know what I mean :)!

Oh yeah, and dont expect to see Spiegel until the day AFTER your surgery. Most of the time the surgeon comes to see you and identifies that you ARE his patient.... not Spiegel!

About not telling family, friends, etc..... thats one regret I had. I wish I had not told anyone! My weight loss is around 40 pounds and everyone I see thinks I should be skinny now.

Oh and the gas.... WALK! A good friend had the GBP about 2 months before my banding and that was the one thing she instilled in me - when the shoulder pain strikes, go for a walk. Lots of folks take gasx or other med's which is fine too!

Good luck!

How fast you can lose 70 pounds will depend a lot on you and how hard you work at it: exercise, eating healthy foods, following the band rules, etc.

Rebeccalee has lost 74 pounds in about 6 months. On the other hand, I've lost 70 pounds in 16 months. It all depends on you. And remember, it's not a race.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
