A brand new wardrobe. I've been grabbing a fewer cheaper items to get me through but I can't wait to do shopping for "real"

I'm with you my friend.. I want to buy clothes from International male.. haha. But that amusement park thing.. that really strikes a nerve with me. I was actually laughed at That day.. That was probably the worst day of my life when I had to walk with my daughter back down the line because the bar wouldn't close over my stomach..

sounds like you need to undo that memory and replace it with a good one when you get to goal!!

What's going to be your own reward to yourself?

I want to take my wife to either Hawaii or Germany...two places I've been that she hasn't and that I really want to share with her...

I'm finally going to take pictures with my husband. I feel embarrassed for him when I'm in the pic with him right now. He has given me everything else I could ever want. So, I will treat myself to being his blonde bombshell!! LOL

One of the most healing things I've ever done for myself was put out pictures of me at all different sizes....those are all parts of me and I don't want to be ashamed of me...thin, fat or somewhere in between, I'm worthy of being remembered and so are you!! I bet your husband isn't embarrassed when you are in the picture...bet he loves you for who you are regardless of the size you happen to be...

I plan to get my belly button pierced because I always wanted to and get another tattoo in recognition of my weight loss but not sure exactly when I want to get yet.

I also want to get my boobs done because they are in a sad state but I don't think that's a realistic goal since we are not in a place where we can afford plastic surgery. I will need a Tummy Tuck some day too but we'll see.

Two things...

  • A snow skiing trip. I've never been and have put off my wife's requests because I know it would be really hard on my knees at my current weight and I get winded too easily.
  • A new family portrait.

I love this thread ....

When I get to my goal weight I'd love to go to NY. I've always wanted to go there. It's a long way from my home in Australia, and right now I wouldn't be comfortable in a plane seat for that long. While I'm there I'd love to go shopping, clothes in the US are so much cheaper!

I like the idea the poster above had about the Pandora charms for each 25 kg lost ... a great motivation when you have a lot to lose.

My final goal ... just participating in life more!

I live a couple hours from the Adirondack mountains in NY and absolutely love hiking. I plan to treat myself to the view from the top of a lot of the bigger mountains that I was previously too out of shape to climb. I’ve done a lot of smaller mountains and a few of the bigger ones pre surgery, but really struggled with the bigger ones. I’m in the gym almost every day and getting closer to my goal weight so I figure by spring time I should be good to start tackling some of the bigger mountains.

A new stylish wardrobe! I have been helping my straight sized friends find cute & affordable outfits for years, while plus sized clothing was/is so expensive. Can’t wait to shop anywhere!

A new family portrait.

Great reminder, I can't believe how long I've put this off. The last one I have was before I met my husband--13 years ago!

I'd love to say travel or a fancy new wardrobe, but I know that my budget won't change even though my body will. The things I'm planning on are new family portraits/being in more pictures with my family and friends, and maybe a tattoo.

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
