Rucamama 104 Posted September 28, 2017 So today I completed my upper GI, they found a small hiatal hernia and could see I have acid reflux. Will those count towards comorbilities? My BMI is 48 and I am for the most part healthy. I'm hoping for insurance purposes it will be a plus.
Subaru 66 Posted September 28, 2017 Most insurances don't require co-morbidities if your BMI is 40 or over. If your reflux has been diagnosed as GERD, I believe that is a co-morbidity, as is hypertension and sleep apnea and a few others. I do not think a hiatal hernia is a co-morbidity. Best of luck! Hiatal hernia and GERD/ acid reflux are not usually comorbidities (but are often addressed via surgery) Hypertension sleep apnea and diabetes are frequently the big ones Edited September 30, 2017 by Mhy12784
BMC blogger 38 Posted September 30, 2017 I have yet to come across an insurance company that requires a comorbidity for a bmi over 40. Normally they require 1-2 comorbidities only if your bmi is between 35-39.
