I apologize it i'm not doing this correctly. I am new and not used to online forums. July 17th I had my surgery, and received a gastric sleeve. I was self pay because as a teacher my insurance doesn't cover it. Nor will they pay for a nutritionist so I can't afford to go. I was 300 lbs, but as of today I am 230. Last week I was taken off of my Blood Pressure medicine so I can't complain too much. Eating though is terrible. I constantly get food stuck, and wind up throwing up at work. Yesterday I had to have a sub watch my class while I was praying to the porcelain god Ralph. The paperwork my doctor gave me said I should be on solid foods, but Proteins like baked chicken, or grilled hamburger makes me sick. sometimes I can eat 3 oz. of solid food, but sometimes only 2.5. The paperwork says I should be eating 4 oz of Protein, and 8 oz. of total food. Totally not happening. Any suggestions? I thought about going back to eating stewed meats, or stuff cooked in the crook pot. I do pretty good with some Soups as long as they don't have cream since now I have heartburn and am lactose intolerant. I know food is no longer going to have power over me, but it shouldn't leave me afraid to eat or drink. I am struggling getting my 64 oz. of Water a day with the vomiting. Sorry for rambling. I would appreciate and suggestions anyone could give.

One of the things that always makes me vomit is eating too quickly. It should be taking you 30 minutes to consume that 3-4 ounces of dense Protein. You should not be drinking for 30 minutes after you eat. That, for me, definitely makes me vomit. If you h ave reflux, talk to your primary care doc about getting an Rx for Protonix or another PPI to help. Reflux can add to the nausea situation.

I'm 13 months out and I can sometimes eat 8 ounces total at one meal. Not often. The other night I ate about 2/3 of a 6 ounce salmon portion and about 1/4 cup of zucchini noodles for dinner and thought I was going to die I was so full.

Take your time. Chew well. Do not rush eating. I know as a teacher you have a limited time to eat, so maybe make lunches at school softer foods that you tolerate more easily like Soups and yogurt.

I would also find a registered dietitian in your area that is part of a bariatric practice and pay out of pocket for a visit -- it sounds like you need some help planning menus to fit your dietary issues and an RD can help with that.

@chris1985

hey dude/aka newbie!!!

I agree @Diana_in_Philly - eating too fast is very bad. you must

slllllow it down. chew into small bites, THEN swallow. No gulping

allowed!! (people have been shot for less!!) use small (baby) utensils, that

will help FORCE you to eat slowly. put utensil down between bites.

then start again with eating. DON'T drink any Water while you are

eating anything! don't drink 30 minutes before you eat, then wait

30 minutes after you eat til you drink. find a support group in your area.

(doc should help you/or office) maybe you could make a friend, then you can help

each other. this board is very helpful, informative. continue to ask

your questions, you'll there are bariatric books with recipes too. one example is

Weight Loss Surgery Cookbook for Dummies lots of information on various web sites!!

KNOWLEDGE is POWER!! Good luck - kathy

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
