I am 2 weeks post op and this morning I am really hungry! I thought we weren't supposed to get those hunger pains since that hormone was supposed to be removed. Anyone else getting hungry in the first phase, or any phase for the matter?

Sorry, but that ghrelin hormone is not removed, that's why there's a chance of regaining. I think the RNY removes the hormone. I had hunger pains for 2 to 3 weeks. It will go away after a while though. [emoji4]

It essentially is removed. It's growth lies in the removed portion of the abdomen. This is only true with gastric sleeved patients.

I thought the Ghrelin hormone was removed?? What is RNY?

RNY is gastric bypass

I was told just the opposite, that the ghrelin hormone was only removed when having the sleeve surgery, and not from the gastric bypass.

Hey, I think you're right. I just read something from national Institute of health. But, I still don't get that if it's removed why is there still a chance to gain weight. I guess it's because even if we're not hungry, people can still eat the wrong things.

This road could be tougher than expected. I just pray I can stay busy doing things and not think about eating. [emoji21] [emoji17]

That's exactly right! Just because we might not be hungry, we still have to watch what we eat or we will gain weight. That's why they say we have to eat healthy. The surgery just helps us to eat smaller portions. I have heard of people that eat pass feeling full all the time and stretched their stomach out. Those are the ones I would expect gain the weight back.

I'm 4 mos post-op gastric sleeve & you do get hungry. I've learned from my nutritionist it's better for us to start our day off with broth, then go to the Protein Shake, drink H20/ NS/NF Crystal Light (Walmart's Great Value is the same but costs less & you get more packets), puddings, jellos, and popsicles/fudgesicles/creamsicles. Then repeat the process. When you're advised, you can begin to add in an egg, cheeses, etc. I've lost 55 lbs. Also learned that we don't need fruits/veggies as much as we do Protein. I've got 50 more pounds to lose. Good luck, this isn't easy; however, it's so simple to just follow the directions & eat right. I've got a psychologist to help me with my emotional eating issues/body dysmorphia. I keep a food journal, not times, just what goes in my mouth & if it stay put or not.

I'm 10 months post op and I get hungry if I don't eat every few hours. My NUT said it's natural and many people eat 6 small meals a day or 3 meals and 3 small Snacks between after bariatric surgery long term instead of 3 large meals. Also I've found that as a female I'm hungrier during my time of the month and TMI but due to my heavy periods my primary care doc said that I might need higher calories during that time.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
