I'm getting really excited AND really nervous...any recommendations for me as I fast approach my procedure? I've been very careful about my diet this last week and have lost 3 lbs. I'm feeling very motivated and determined but still nervous. The day prior to my procedure I have to be in a clear liquid diet, was this what everyone else had to do as well? Then day of no food or Water whatsoever. Wish me luck and any wise words would be welcome.

Just stay the course! You are doing fabulously! And when you go in, remember its only about 45 minutes and you're changing your life in a positive, long term way. Take a lot of slow deep breaths while they get you ready. I find (surgery pro here) that if I have a song (ear worm) in my head that makes me calm, or for me scriptural verses, I breeze through the surgery getting ready. You will do well, and we'll all be here on the "other side"

I said this in a post I've been updating, the only "hard" part is the liquid diet so far. My only pre-op requirement was no food, or liquid from midnight until after the procedure. My procedure was 1:30 in the afternoon so that kinda sucked but not horrible. I hope your experience goes smooth. Good luck.

Hi everyone! I had my ESG three days ago. In all honesty it was a very very rough first and second day. My procedure was delayed due to the surgery scheduled before me going way over. I was scheduled for Thursday 2pm ...I didn't end up going in until 7pm. I woke at 2am Friday feeling absolutely horrendous. And continued to feel extremely bad until Saturday morning. I am feeling much much better now and am working hard to get food/protein smoothie down. I feel no hunger whatsoever but am weak so I know I need nutrition. There wasn't ever a huge amount of pain just extremely nauseous and a very strange tight uncomfortable feeling in my stomach. Both have subsided significantly - however a lot of very loud strange rumbles and grumbles are going on in my abdomen. Upside, I have already lost. Feeling hopeful and positive!!!

Yea, Belle, you did it! Glad to hear that your procedure was successful. You seem to have been out for a long time following your procedure. I wonder if others were out for 5-6 hours post-procedure. Do you think that the difficulty you experienced the first couple of days was related to the anesthesia? Was your throat sore afterwards?

Hi SammyKay,
I would have got out about 5 hrs after procedure too and think I was fairly slow to get nausea and pain under control. If you are feeling well I'm sure they would discharge you sooner. The nausea is pretty extreme first up, I imagine it is caused by a number of factors. It really does settle quickly though so just prepare for a few off days and you will be back up and going in no time.

Hi Belle, how have the last couple of weeks been for you?

Hi@Melesg !!
I am feeling amazing I've lost 20 pounds since I started weighing - 13 since surgery day. First few days were record books bad. I felt really really bad but then it just got better right away. I love how easily I get full!!! There has been no reflux, no Constipation, no pain ...no side effects. I can believe how easy this was really. I have more energy then ever and feel extremely clear headed. I'm following a low carb, high Protein, vegan as often as possible...but I'm definitely not vegan. I do very little dairy and no breads or wheat...I'm gluten intolerant- perhaps even may have celiacs. I'm excited to see what to future holds with this. Everyone is starting notice, a lot of my old clothes are starting to fit again and it's really exciting. What a gift this procedure has been. How about you? How are you doing?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
