Newbie - regaining weight after 2014 sleeve - Help!

Recommended Posts

I had my sleeve done in May 2014 and did really well in the months after. I was exercising and the weight was coming off. I was down 80 pounds at one point and on my way to my goal of losing 125. One year after surgery, I enrolled in seminary, changed jobs and moved to a new city. Slowly over the last two and a half years, I've regained 28 pounds. I'm miserable. I know I'm overeating. I know my pouch has stretched. I've started going back to the gym but I overeat, especially at night when I'm studying. Sorry for venting so much but I just needed some place to speak out where people will understand. So...my plan is to try a pouch re-set. I found a new primary care doctor who has referred me to a new bariatric practice (I don't live in the city where I had my surgery) but the first available appointment is almost 3 months from now. I found this 10 day pouch re-set plan online. https://www.obesitycoverage.com/the-pouch-reset-losing-weight-after-weight-regain/ Has anybody tried this? I think that by re-setting myself with this, continuing to go to the gym and finding emotional support, I can get back on track and hit my plan of losing 75 pounds by graduation in May 2018. Has anybody else out there re-gained like this?

I feel really sad and alone and ashamed right now. Thanks for listening.

Don't be ashamed of yourself and don't live in fear of failure. You CAN do this! Be encouraged that you have made the big step and set yourself up to succeed. Take one day at a time and reset your mind and stomach. Don't fret about the past, you need to make sure you're your #1 priority. You have a lot of people rooting for you! One day at a time.
Be Blessed!

Does the bariatric physician have a support group? Does college have counselors or can refer you to one? Even if it is to learn to deal with stress in ways other than food.

You can't change yesterday, so guilt is the most useless emotion. I would go for hope, get excited about your new career, about a new life, anything with forward motion. Good luck.

Please don’t feel bad! Just today I saw THREE ladies at the gym who had had the op over the last three years and they have all regained their weight!
Please have Amini bypass! It is so much more permanent!

@Rev2be

Try eating real food. 4 ounces of dense Protein, chicken breast, steak or pork chops 3 to 4 times a day. Drinking calories is pointless.

You don't have a pouch so the pouch reset isn't going to help you, plus it is just a dumb fad diet. You can't live like that forever. However eating dense protein first is how sleevers are supposed to eat for life.

You can eat around any surgery, so unless your eating habits are together, you are going to just regain over and over. There is someone who posted here that is on their 3rd weight loss surgery, not because of complications like GERD but because of regain. Surgery can't save you from a bad diet.

I had my surgery gastric sleeve 4/28/2016. SW 288, CW 229 lowest weight was 219 so I’ve gained 10 lbs and I am not so happy about it myself. I don’t work out like I should and don’t eat like I should either but I still have restriction otherwise I probably would have gained more back. I too feel helpless and upset I have failed yet again but I joined a kickboxing gym and started eating healthier the last week. I have my 1.5 year follow up wed let’s see what the Dr says. I asked at my 1 year if I can have the bypass done they said I had to wait till 2 years post op. Sorry I’m not much help but just wanted you to know your not alone.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
