I'm SO EXCITED about my surgery on Tuesday (9/26/17). I have been over weight my whole life and it took me to turn 40 yrs old to realize I wanna LIVE! and I mean REALLY live..not closed up behind doors hiding from the world.. I've started my NEW Journey of healthy living and I can't wait to continue..

Hi Tracey! I'm 40 as well and had gastric sleeve on 9/20/17. I wasn't really nervous but instead extremely anxious. Please believe that everyday gets easier. I feel a little less pain as the days go by. You'll do fine and begin to love the new path you're on even when you feel starved from the liquid diet.

Hello everyone! I was sleeved on 9/21/17 and wasn't nervous or anxious about anything besides having a drain. I will say the discomfort right out of surgery was about 6 on a scale of 1 to 10 but I took that morphine drip for the ride as if it were my best friend for the first few hours:D. My doctor and the hospital staff were shocked and impressed at how well I was moving around 6 hours after surgery but I was determined. I encourage you to get up and keep moving. Everyday gets easier!

Do keep us posted with how your doing....I know it may be rough for the first few hours, maybe even the first day but just hang in there. The gas can be a major pain and not being able go have anything to drink for the first 24 hours is outrageous. Don't forget to do your breathing exercises...today is day 6 post op and the pain is practically gone but I decided to drink a Breakfast shake, worse decision ever! I'm losing it at every end (tmi)

Everything went GREAT..Not much pain at all..Thank God! I'm walking the halls as much as I can[emoji4] My surgeon just come in and told me he wants me to try to get 16oz of fluids down and eat my supper

Fantastic to know that everything went great! Each Doctor is different and my plan is strict. Couldn't have any liquids for the first 24hours. I'm glad you can have Fluid and sounds like you get a meal as well. The walking is crucial and superb job at getting out in those halls and walking your into a whole new lifestyle..the gas I have is really bothering me but I have a post surgery appointment on Friday and can't wait to get this drain out of my stomach.

Hey Tracey! Glad to hear you're doing so well! This morning after surgery was rough for me, has a lot of pain on the right side of my stomach and was extremely nauseous. As the day has gone on my nausea has gotten better, comes back a little when I take sips of Water or ice tea. Been up walking twice though so that's something! I couldn't even imagine eating anything haha glad to hear you're recovering so well :)

How are you both feeling? I had my surgery the day before you. I had a 2 day stay in the hospital and 24 hours I couldn't drink anything. The air trapped itself under my ribs cage. Moving or taking a deep breath was awful. But it is slowly going away.

Hi, that gas is terrible!!!!! I'm on to pureed foods now but still have a hard time getting things down because of the gas in my stomach. It's very painful!!! And I've noticed that my GNC lean Protein Shakes that I once loved are less desired, even the tasty muscle milk shake. They told me to walk and I've been doing that since surgery but the gas is stubborn..hopefully things are getting better for you each day...

Hey Tracey, how are you doing?

Hey Waxy, sorry to hear about your gas pain, I can't even imagine! I thought I escaped without getting any but when I started sleeping in bed the other night I could only sleep on my one side and woke in the morning with terrible gas pain in my shoulder. I've been walking to try and get rid of it but walking didn't seem to help. Last night I slept in my recliner with a heating pad on my shoulder and this morning...so far...I'm pain free! How are you doing now?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
