What's in your over night bag ?

Recommended Posts

My doc actually gave us a list! I have slippers to walk around in so you don't have to bend down to put them on, a "coughing" pillow or stuffed animal to hold to your tummy to prevent pain, bathrobe for walking around in, toothbrush and toohpaste, Shampoo, hairbrush, deodorant, phone, charger, meds, loose fitting clothing, and LIP BALM they say your lips will be very dry.

Also for the checklist they added not to wear makeup, contacts, nailpolish, or perfume on the day of the surgery, make sure your bills are paid and your house clean and there is a phone by your bed at home and someone to look in on you. Good luck everyone :)

I honestly didn't use ANYTHING that I brought. I over think everything, so I was really prepared. I ended up not even opening my bag. You think you're going to want to get changed, but since I had a drain, the hospital gown was the easiest.

I'm a planner and packed EVERYTHING!

Only things I actually used were lip balm, my own pillow and phone charger (and phone). The hospital wouldn't let me consume anything from home-- gas x, cough drops all had to be ordered and provided. They also provided toiletries, ear plugs, notepad and pen...wore a second gown backwards as a robe.

Yeah, a good list ... I plan on taking my own face washer, toothbrush, toothpaste, comb, shampoo, deodorant, a dressing-gown, a couple of changes of underwear for my 1-2 overnights, clothes and shoes to leave for home, iPhone, tablet computer, Kindle, earphones, three charger cables and a couple of plugs, reading glasses, cryptic crossword books and my regular medication.

And, now, on the advice of others, some lip-balm or a chapstick.

Sure! here ya go. How much stuff I'll actually need is questionable. I just can't wait already. My stomach feels like it is eating itself.

Lip balm, PJ bottoms, slippers, a comb, my phone. We are only 5 min from hospital. And he's got to go home frequently to let dogs out

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
