Looking for a buddy who understands regain.

Recommended Posts

Hi I am 12 years out of having my Roux-en-Y surgery. Things were great for 3 years then it went downhill fast and I've regained a lot of my weight back. Please don't lecture me on what I did wrong and how I was stupid and wasted this opportunity! You aren't in my shoes and haven't gone through what I have been in the last 12 years. And I already have been telling myself how I messed up.and am ready to turn it back around and re climb the hill and win at losing it. And if you are less than 5 years out and haven't experienced any real regain and have dealt with the following : depression, stress and deaths please don't lecture me. Even if you mean well, please don't.

I know I can do this, I just need to get started. I am here to get some support to get back on track.

Hey smiling! I'm 27 years past my stomach stapling gained all my weight back and now I'm going for an RNY. You're not alone, you're not even in a room with a few people, you're in a room with a whole hell of a lot of people! You hang in there girl and remember you can't ever start over too many times. You got this! God bless you and yours.

Oh gosh me too. I’m almost 9 years post-op from my RNY. Lost a total of 110 pounds. Kept it all off for several years but then gained back 60. I’ve lost 10 on my own but coming here for encouragement and support to lose at least 40 more.

I had a Rough en Y bypass in November of 1999. I lost all of my weight but since have gained back 42lbs. Like most of the post Im seeing I have been through some very tough times. However I am the happiest in my personal life Ive ever been. I started looking at the weight loss programs all my friends are on and I thought to myself why am I trying to do what they are since they have never had this surgery. Since my surgery I had zero post op support of follow up. My hair was falling out and my teeth are not good. I cannot chew very well since Ive lost teeth. I dont want any more side effects or symptoms. I have to relearn and get some support now. Please dont judge me. I serve in ministry and I trust Jesus If I dont take care of myself and reset my pouch I will not be healthy to serve in ministry or care for my family. Please give advice on what you have done to get back on track?

Have you been able to get the help and support yet. How did you reset your pouch?

Ok, first thing is to address your medical needs. Do you have a family doctor and insurance? If not, can you get them? You need annual bloodwork, for life.

The bloodwork shows what vitamins/minerals you are low on. hair and teeth falling out point to Iron and Calcium, but you are likely short on a lot of things if you haven't been taking Vitamins religiously.

Every bypass patient needs a Multivitamin and calcium citrate. Most also need B-12 and Iron.

I am 16 years out, had a revision that didn’t work. I went through all the motions as those whose surgeries were successful. Mine wasn’t. A dr there told me that I would only lose 40 lbs. He had no idea of the sacrifices I made. Instead of a revision, which took a waiting period of 14 months, I did not get it done. I regained weight after complications of another surgery. We regain weight for many reasons. So, I felt like the only one who left the hospital empty handed and sad. No one is stupid for trying to be healthier. I was so upset at this “another failure” that I decided to “reset” my mind instead of thinking about the stress of regain and revision. My driving force is what motivated me. These textbook doctors and nutritionists don’t know what’s in our head. They see you for 5 minutes, get their $300-$400, and I’m left to deal with this myself. Even my family doesn’t help very well. I decided that since the drs can’t help me, I’ll be damned if I’m going to fail myself. I’m going through the motions as if I’m a brand new patient, regardless of my hunger or very painful legs. I’m going to prove that jerk dr who told me that I would only lose 40 pounds. What an idiot. I lost weight before, regained and they can’t fix it. Well, I’ll start all over, no matter what it takes. If I binge on diet chewing gum to get through the food urge, fine. It is what it is. I know what I could have done better the first time around. We have another chance because I do not believe in failure, no matter what the circumstances are. Plus, I’m probably older than you, so now I’m told more bs about age. I’m going to prove them wrong, and I’ve already done searches like MyFitnessPal.com. We can’t do anything about the past, but we can control our future. I hope this helps you in some way. - Pam

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
