Hi all, have read some of your chats and thanks for the info, but I can't seem to find anyone in my position...I'm 42, have been working out hard for just over 3 years - I am the fittest fat person I know. In order to get my lap band I had to do the South Beach Diet for around 6mo. I did it and was really happy with the results; I went from 220 down to 200. And I thought that if I just continued I could reach my goal without surgery. Ha!

Then we had some financial problems and I couldn't be as strict with the diet -( I call this period my food bank diet). I did, however keep going to the gym. This is the hard part, because I work out really hard - I can do an under 8 min. mile, and take all the aerobics and step classes the gym has - I still gained 36 lbs. When I went back to see my doctor, I had to start all over again because he considered me noncompliant.

When I finally had the surgery I was back to 220 - this was on July 16th. Since then, I have had one fill, which did nothing, and one more, which was too tight so they had to take it out. My band is a 4cc band and I have 1.6ccs total.

I now weigh 200lb. 20 lbs. in 3 mos. for all that I do does not seem enough.

I can eat anything, I have no restriction. Sometimes things stick and I have to throw up. I can't eat all my good foods - I went to eat cabbage the other day and that was a total disaster. I feel like I'm actually eating worse now that I have the band. I don't have a comfortable feeling of fullness ever - its either discomfort or waiting for the food to go down. I had this idea that I would be eating good food but just a lot less of it.

I also have had a tingling in my left hand, pins and needles like, with constant shoulder pain since the surgery. Any suggestions are welcome, thanks!

When you do not have good restriction ( and until you get it) you must (unfortunately) continue to count calories like an old fashioned diet.

Tracking your Protein helps too. This is something we all learn quickly, when our bands are not tight and we find out we can eat too much.

At the same time, our bands are still there so some food does not agree with us. We must chew very well, eat slowly and follow the band rules.

Also because your last fill was too tight, does not mean you're not ready again for a SMALL fill to help the hunger. Make an appt and discuss this with the Dr or staff.

My doc told me that even a 10th of a cc can make a big difference. I think that I would go in for a slight fill or at least a consult with your doc to see what he recommends. Also, change up your workouts. I was also into working out and stalled. It was because I was doing the same thing over and over. Even pilates or yoga was enough to mix it up.

I was banded in December and trying to get back into the habit of working out. But it is -7 this morning, I just can't do it. I know I am horrible!

Good luck to you!

Brandy

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
