My surgery date is 10/2 and I'm trying to get a head start on the grocery list. My husband is a trucker and will be doing some shopping for me before he goes back out on the road so that I won't have to shop for several weeks. I know what I'm doing in the first stage but have no idea what I'll be eating in the pureed stage. Tell me what I should put on my grocery list. Thanks in advance.

I'm loving 1 scrambled egg with a tiny pat of butter, cotttage cheese, really good chicken broth for collagen, Protein Shake made with great quality whey Protein and coconut Water. Hummus didn't go down well for me. The BEST has been a slow cooked chicken puréed with a chunk of carrot and the juices - absolute heaven. If you have a slow cooker I can give you the recipe.

Cannot recommend this highly enough. I always set it for 6 hours no matter the size of chicken. You can tone down the spice rub if you want, but it's actually very slight. I don't bother grilling it at the end to crisp the skin. (Right now we're not going to be using the skin anyway). I make it regularly and added the broth and veg and chicken to a small bowl of brown rice or similar. But made it today on Day 3 of Purees, pulled a tiny bit of chicken (it's so soft and tearable done this way), one chunk of carrot and the juices and pureed them and it was the first time I actually wanted more of anything since my op. Whoever made this recipe up is a genuis. At the moment I'm not eating the other veg - onion & celery - as I don't want to take chances. Of course once you have picked the chicken you can chuck the bones back in and get a superb stock. And THIS is my fave recipe for that http://www.theyummylife.com/Slow_Cooker_Chicken_Broth

My Mum had Gastric Bypass almost a year ago and when I made the Chicken in Slow Cooker for her she got so much wellness out of it. Good luck!! I wonder what other peoples faves are.

p.s Bone Broth / stock is absolutely fantastic for collagen which we need for healing post surgery. i took advice from a nutritionist before I went into this and her recommendations have been fantastic. she told me about a broth here in the UK from Osius which is made from all of the chicken including feet and is therefore collagen to the max. i don't know if there is an equivalent in the States but that got me through Phase 1. it was delicious! you could literally serve it at a dinner party.

I just finished the puréed stage. I ate yogurt and puréed canned fruit, Protein Shakes, roasted butternut squash to make a Soup, broths but make sure they are Bone Broth a lot more flavor, no sugar puddings and Jello.

I start the puréed phase in seven days. I can have soft cooked eggs, and anything that doesn't require chewing. Example puréed sweet potato, puréed dark meat chicken, puréed fruits, etc. My doctor says if you have to chew it then it's not puréed so just pulverize it. Lol.

Egg was so hard for me the first day I had a bad reaction, tachycardia and numbness on my left arm, I was so scare so, I tried again a after a week and it was better. I usually eat a cottage cheese in the morning. chicken puree with pumpkin puree, all from scratch. But I bought baby food for those days that I can't cook, because I am busy. I bought beef, chicken and ham, just add a little salt and is edible. But I cook my meals most of the time, love to cook, I eat the same as I cook for my family, just modify to my diet. When they eat Pasta I eat pumpkin puree or mash potatoes, or mash malanga or plantain. I haven't eat salad as of yet.

How I cook the chicken?

Salt

Taco seasoning

Lemon few drops

Garlic powder

Oregano powder

Paprika

Bbq rub for chicken

Then I puree with light mayo as per my nutritionist.

I have been checking out Pinterest. I've saved a lot of recipes. Right now it is making it difficult to focus on the liquid pre-op diet. LOL

Did you purée the scrambled egg?

I liked pureed refried Beans with melted cheese and salsa. You could add some Protein Powder for more Protein.

I also ate Ricotta Bake quite a bit as well as pureed tuna or chicken salad.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
