Surgery date: October 17...Is 1 day in the hospital enough?

Recommended Posts

1 day is enough provided your bladder wakes up mine didn’t until late the day after, was very close to being required to stay another night

I had RNY and I know I am a tough cookie (really). I think everyone responds differently and unexpectedly to their own unique procedure. Prepare for the worst and hope for the best. Have a back-up plan. I stayed ONE day and for me it was a huge mistake. I should have stayed the extra day. Listen to the cues your body gives you. You get no award or ribbon for gritting your teeth and struggling if you need that extra day. I think had I spent the extra day in hospital I would have ultimately had a faster recovery rate in general. Just listen to your body at the time. You may be great after 24 hours but there is no shame in an extra day if you need it. Good Luck!

Hi I had surgery on Monday and did everything I could to leave on Thursday evening. Believe me you will feel happier at home with family. Three days after surgery I'm feeling much better. Best wishes to you.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
