Take your pain meds!!!!!

Banding made me hurt like hell too, and I didn't want to be loopy, so I didn't take my pain meds when I needed to, and ended up pulling muscles from holding myself funny and was out of work 4 days more than I should have been!

Learn from my mistake :Banane35:

Sorry to hear about the pain. I'm still not sure where my port site is... I'm guessing either the middle top incision or the one right below and to my right. It's a big incision although maybe that was where they put the band in... not sure. No one in recovery knew which was the port site sadly. Luckily though none of my incisions hurt much so I can't tell that way ;)

The biggest incision is the port ;)

They have to make it big to get the port in there.

I'm taking my meds as prescribed. It's only been 24 hours since the surgery. But I really didn't expect this amount of pain. It is better when I lie down but when I sit up I get severe 'twinges'.

When I was being prepped for surgery, they asked me how I felt and I said 'Excited!'. They said they hadn't heard that before. I realize now why lol!

I guess it's different for all people. I'd heard so much of people just flying through this without much pain. I'm glad I have 2 weeks off.

I know what you mean LaLa about the pulled muscles. My neck is sore and my thighs are sore from trying to move around without using my abdomin.

I hope it eases throughout today. What sort of meds were you on?

They gave me liquid lortabs (to go home with). Made me loopy, so I didn't want to take them. I am like you, I read and it sounded like the surgery pain was a breeze (not really, but most people seemed to have minimal pain). But I was miserable, I cried sometimes from it. I was frustrated because it hurt too much to move, and laying down hurt just as much. And so then when I got home, I didn't take pain meds and ended up straining a muscle, ended up at the ER because I thought it was a blood clot!! (In my chest). So they told me to go home and rest, and it took a total of 8 days for me to recover. I hurt myself more on day 4, so I should have been back to work had I followed doctors orders.

Welcome to bandworld!!! I know it seems bad but everyday it gets a little better. Take it easy until at least day 4, it's easy to over do it. I'm feeling 95% normal now and I'm on day 9!

Oh yuck! I totally relate to your pain. I took them at their words when they said "minimally invasive": liars. I felt totally “invasived”. I think they had the entire zoo trample on my stomach during surgery. I am 13 days post-op and if I do too much in a day I feel it at night. What really helped me was taking my pain meds and shuffling down the road in my pjs. My neighbours thought I was in labor! I guess it was the pained look on my face and my bloated belly. Take it easy, don’t be superwoman. This is the first time in my entire life that I ever “took it easy” and I am so thankful that I did. I hope you feel better soon. They say that by the 5th day you do turn a magic corner. For me it was day 7.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
