right after surgery

How do most feel right after surgery? I'm hoping to only take one week off work, two at most. Is this unrealistic? Also worried about losing too fast and feeling crummy.

I have been very fortunate to have had no complications and a fairly easy recovery. It's impossible to predict though!

i had a two day hospital stay, and I was up walking laps around the hospital wing within a few hours. (Although, most of those two days, I was sleeping.).

I did go back to work yesterday, which was day 6, but I have a desk job and I only work 6 hours a day. I was exhausted by mid-day, so it probably wouldn't have hurt to take more time off. I didn't want to tell anyone at work about the surgery though, so I just sucked it up and dealt with the exhaustion.

From what I've read everyone reacts differently to the surgery. Better to wait and see. Ask for 2 weeks. You can always amend it if you feel like going back earlier.

My doctor recommends two weeks, saying you can return after one week. I returned after one week, I was not in pain at all, but I think I could have used the other week to rest and recoup a little more. Staying hydrated is the first issue that you have to deal with. It is tough to get all the liquids in at first. I did fine, just tired, really tired. This surgery is a major shock to your body so it takes a little time to adjust. I am 4 weeks post op and doing much better every day!

This information is so valuable, as I have been asking and researching the estimated time out after surgery. Thanks for sharing

I talked to my doctor yesterday. He said he prefers patients take 2 weeks at least but he understands lots of people can't. He told me a week at home for sure and then to try to work just a few hours a day on week 2. By week 3 he said half a day and week 4 back to normal schedule. The hardest part is the time you need to stay hydrated.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
