ClauDia1330 2 Posted September 17, 2017 How many have had problems with close relationships friends family after surgery ? Even husbands or wifes ? Does it have to do with depression after surgery? I have Read most people end up with divorce? 😞how true is this
Berry78 4,261 Posted September 17, 2017 Divorce IS really common (I don't know the statistics). BUT, keep in mind that many of the relationships were rocky before surgery. In fact, the surgery may have been undergone as a last ditch, "maybe if I lose this weight he/she will love me more!" effort. Surgery also reconfigures so many aspects in the patient's daily life. Eating out doesn't hold the charm it used to.. taking walks and going to the gym are much more interesting... for the patient. The spouse may not want things to change. Personally, I'm 6 months postop and my hubby and I USED to go out to eat all the time, etc. But by the time I was 3 months postop my hubby realized eating out wasn't going to be a thing so much anymore. He also started seeing my dramatic improvements in health and happiness, and wanted some of that for himself. So he picked up a diet and joined me in my journey. Our relationship is slowly strengthening now. But it easily could have gone the other way... 1 BusyMom945 reacted to this

Diana_in_Philly 1,426 Posted September 17, 2017 Since my surgery last year, my hubby has lost 40 pounds, started running (did his first half marathon today) and our relationship is no different - it was good before and is good now. I think the status of your relationship before is the key. 3 ItsJustMeToo, B_Lush77 and woo woo reacted to this
B_Lush77 30 Posted December 3, 2017 My husband and had a wonderful relationship prior to my surgery. He accepted me at my highest weight and my reasoning for surgery wasn’t for cosmetic reason but for health. Now I have a close friend and her relationship is just as shitty now as it was before then so it proves it doesn’t matter how you look if the person doesn’t care they just don’t care 2 ricesangel and katholder reacted to this
