Cheated a bit on pre-op

Recommended Posts

I am expecting to be flogged by someone for saying this.

I have 2 days until I am going to be on the other side, and have been on a 2 week pre-op diet,,,of sorts. I had veggies as allowed to do, but found my self overeating them at times. No fast food, nothing like that at all although it has been very hard not to. Tomorrow is my last day to have anything to eat and Sunday is all liquid, ,, period and I will abide 100%. I am scared of not being a good candidate when the Dr. looks inside there and closing me up. Tonight, Friday I had some popcorn and am feeling extremely remorseful. I just caved somewhat. I have done the Water thing, drank all my Protein Shakes and ate SF Jello. Realizing the first thing that comes to mind is can I go into this journey and be successful? Am I really ready, I think I am,,,Now that I have this off of my mind I want to know if anyone else has cheated on the pre-op diet, and if so, did you ruin your surgery because you weren't exactly 100%.

Thanks--------

Stay strong. I'm currently 3 weeks post up but before surgery I kept myself from indulging and completely ruining my pre-op liquid diet by imagining food spewing out of my stomach during surgery and getting an infection from it and dying. You probably don't want to think such dreadful thoughts but it kept me in check. With that said, I did cheat on my pre-op diet. I only did 7 full days instead of 10 (I had put myself on a plant based and progressively liquid diet 2weeks prior) I had a real meal about 48hrs before my surgery. It was a rather small meal of quinoa , grilled chicken squares and bell peppers stir fry which I followed a few hrs later with magnesium citrate and a ton ( really like 2 gallons) of Water.

Fortunately for me, my surgeon after surgery told me that my liver was super small so I didn't need a 6th incision. I guess what I'm trying to say is that, yes, the pre-op diet is insanely difficult ( I couldn't watch tv because of food commercials) but you ARE ABLE to do it!!!! Good luck on your diet and surgery!

I cheated a little- nothing major. I'd eat 5 ounces of grilled chicken when my doctor said no more than 4, etc. then, after surgery, my doc told me I had a really small liver and he didn't even need to use the retractor.

it sounds like the cheating you did won't cause a problem. Just don't chest in the clear liquid day!

We all slip once in a while, but you CAN do this!

I didn't even have a pre-op diet. So I followed a pre-op diet to 0%.

A lot is depending on the size of the liver and how much fat is in the omentum. Did you have an ultrasound?

Sounds like you're maintaining pretty good control of yourself, even while cheating. popcorn and veggies instead of whole pizzas and sweets. Good job! You'll be fine, but like others have said - don't cheat on the liquid diet

All liquid diet today, surgery tomorrow. No problems with it at all, everything is good and I am anxious to start this new journey!

I have cheated a few times on mine a few times over the last few weeks. Surgery is only a few days away for me now ..time to tighten up to 100% !

@Alex Brecher, as you know, emotions can't be read online. However, I could have expounded on it a little further by saying that I too have cheated on my pre-op diet and realized the error and made the correction.

No hard feelings to anyone I may have offended and it's clearly not my intent as I have been a member since last year and have faced many obstacles along the way and posted many comments without any issues or complaints.

I don't know any of you personally, but I do respect all of you and appreciate your feedback and tips I have learned along the way.

Again, to the author of this post and the person who saw it was an issue and think the comment should be banned, my apologies if I offended anyone and not my intention. [emoji68] [emoji17] [emoji4]

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
