Hello,

I had my surgery yesterday 9/14. All went well :-). Just wondering if anyone could tell me when I can expect the pain to subside? Gas pains have been pretty uncomfortable overnight :(

Walk, walk, walk! It helps with the gas, as well as laying on your left side if you can. Mine didn't show up for 24 hours, but then it tapered off after day 4. I would be OK, then full of gas. fart up a storm, then fine again. Rinse and repeat.

I just had mine on 9/11. The first day i walked and walked and walked some more. I'm 4 days in and I just woke up a little stiff but I just walked it off. It takes time my friend. Sip correctly please and pass gas the best you can. The gas x strips are a lifesaver. My wife popped one in just as i woke up I'm my room.

Like GassyGurl said, "Walk, walk and walk." I am almost a year postop and I remember the pain but I don't remember what it felt like. It does get better (I promise) just give it some time. We all heal at different rates, we all lose weight at different rates and we all get to our weight loss goals at different rates. You always have us (your weight loss family) to help answer questions and to give you the support that you may need.

Gas-x saved my life! Lol-watched so many video where people advised you take them to the hospital so i did. Helps tremendously. And of course the walking as well!

They will. You have to do your part and walk. Also becareful sipping so that you want shallow air.

Mine took about a week and a half. The gas pains were there for a few days. I was standing up straight again after day four.

As GassyGuru (cool nick name lol) mentioned. Walk Walk Walk... Walking will help out gas to go away...

In my case took me about 3 weeks to begin feel normal again... You can also talk to your doctor and ask if you can take GAS-X strips... they will help a lot..

Everyday will be less pain.. you will get there... try not to focus on pain, instead try meeting walking distance per day.

Good luck.. Pain is temporary, but results permanent if you stick to plan.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
