LinzGood 2 Posted September 15, 2017 Hi all!!! I'm new to this app. I had gastric sleeve surgery 2 weeks ago and instantly lost 14 pounds. Well I have gained 3 pounds back and it's causing some extreme anxiety. I feel like I'm gonna fail this time as I have so many times before. Anybody else experience this? Introversion 1,876 Posted September 15, 2017 Welcome. If you felt that much anxiety after seeing the scale jump by 3 pounds, perhaps it is time to weigh yourself less frequently. Try weighing in once weekly, or even once a month. Realistic expectations are important. Weight loss with a sleeve doesn't occur in a neat, linear pattern. We lose pounds, then stall/plateau on occasion, then may even gain pounds due to Fluid retention or glycogenation before dropping weight again. When is the last time you lost 14 pounds in 2 weeks through diet and exercise? I'm guessing your answer is "Never." You're doing great. Stay off the scale and allow your body to sort through the trauma it has experienced. Expecting to lose a pound a day is unrealistic. Good luck to you. 6 Vsgneeded, Arabesque, southernbellair79 and 3 others reacted to this
Mytimenow17 99 Posted September 15, 2017 Are you still only taking in liquids? I have to do liquids for 3 weeks.

Sassy Sleeve 34 Posted September 16, 2017 I do weigh daily. The team I work with recommends against that. Last week at my 1-month follow-up both the nurse and the nutritionist urged me not to do that. I still do it because it helps me be aware. However, I will hit a new low and then bounce back up a bit. Earlier on the yo-yo up and down was a bit more. Now it is about a pound though it can be two pounds by the end of the day (I don't often weigh more than once a day). At first, it was very disconcerting when I would see the the weight jump up a bit. After weighing daily, I can kind of sense when the weight is going to be a little higher or lower. It depends - did I drink all of my Water and get in all of Protein? Have I been regular or constipated the past couple of days? Have I been able to exercise and adequate amount? Also, the bounce-ups have gotten to be less as time goes by. So, yes! It freaked me out. I thought I must be eating way too much etc... However, I refocused, and I used an app to track daily calories etc... The weight loss is not linear. Yes! I have felt like I was going to fail, and that I must be doing something wrong. Yes, I feel like I need to work on being better about somethings. So, you are not alone in bouncing up and down. You are not alone in feeling like this won't work. At my one month check-up I asked if my weigh loss was on-track - and the nurse moved the screen to show me where I was and where they would like me to be - and yup - I was on-track. I wish you the best on this journey - it isn't easy! 1 Kia kaha reacted to this
LinzGood 2 Posted September 16, 2017 @linzgood, how did you manage to do regular foods 6 days post op? I am so bored of the milk and liquid diet I was told to... so I did. I've not had much trouble either. 1 teedsg reacted to this

LinzGood 2 Posted September 17, 2017 I've been back on Clear Liquids today. I've been so sick. Nausea and dry heaving. It's been awful
Arielizabeth47 0 Posted September 17, 2017 I have been concerned about this as well. I am 5 weeks out and I have lost 27.6 lbs, but for the last week I have not seen much change. I try to remind myself that I'm doing fine, especially considering my doctor said that my goal for 4 weeks out is 27 lbs. so I'm right where I am supposed to be, even though it may not feel like it. I also had the lose several lbs./gain a few lbs. issue around 2 weeks post-op, so I definitely understand being worried about this. But as long as you are getting in the nutrition and Protein you need, try not to be too hard on yourself about gaining a few lbs back. You're doing great. And if it continues to be a concern, talk to your doctor and your nutritionist about your progress.
Pauliegroup 26 Posted September 17, 2017 I'm two months out and have dropped just under 60 pounds. Even on regular foods I can at best get 3 or 4 oz down. 6 days out on regular food is unheard of. Puree maybe. Talk to your doctor and make sure you are making smart choices.Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using BariatricPal mobile app

Molodyetz 0 Posted September 19, 2017 Literally the exact same thing happened to me. I lost 15 lbs through the first 9 days. Then my weight went back up 4 lbs, and finally today it went back down a couple. Gaining the weight back happened right when I went from full liquid diet, to a puree diet. It has kind of freaked me out, especially since I have been able to handle so much pureed food, about 1.5 cups at a time. The only thing I can figure is that I got really dehydrated by not tracking my Water close enough. I'm now determined to track my water, Protein and calories much closer. I'll let you know what happens.
JustinTime339 4 Posted March 15, 2022 I’m thankful I found this thread from a few years ago. I’m two weeks post op today and have been having a little weight fluctuation since starting on puréed foods last Thursday. I lost 18 pounds in my first week after surgery, but then put 3 back on, 4 back off, and 3 back on. I know I shouldn’t be weighing myself daily but I haven’t been able to stop doing so. Hoping this is normal and overall I’ll drop a ton moving forward! 1 1 Lorimort and LilaNicole20 reacted to this
