How does someone who has had a bankruptsy qualify for a medical loan for surgery

Recommended Posts

My niece (okay my favorite "little thirty-four year old) is in dire need of a lap band. She has some medically related problems but no medical insurance.

She and I have been trying to qualify for the surgery for almost three years and she is getting tired physically and mentally.

Since she cannot afford to pay a huge loan, does anyone know of some medical loan company that will front a low monthly pay loan for her to go to Mexico?

There is a catch. She had a bankruptsy two years ago.:help::rain::):omg:

THAT would be a major problem. Her credit score is probably in the dumps right now. I don't think you'll find a credit agency willing to take the risk. And if they do, they are going to charge astronomical interest and fees.

Does your niece work? If so she may qualify for a low cost state issued insurance, that way she can forego the loan and still have insurance the surgery. Most of them cover the surgery here in NY. I know some people may not want to go that route, but health insurance is a must!

If your neice does not work she may qualify for state issued insurance for free. That also covers the surgery, especially because you said that she has health related issues.

Good Luck!

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
