Thank you all for your honest answers and welcoming behavior. I know I'm here for me, and I won't use the excuse that "They're mean so I can't go there" as a reason to fall. I'm in, I'm staying and I'm taking no prisoners, except that emotional eater inside me. I plan on making it this time, no matter what.

I'm glad you're personally focused. I'm impressed that you are ready to sidestep meanness and negatives.

Stay on track.

Respond to the people who are (helpfully) pushing you towards your goals. Ignore the small-minded and ignorant ... most of all, stay out of any forums where they predominate!

Cheers.

I think you get the good with the bad, but you quickly figure out who to tune out.

A great point.

And, in the extreme of being under an unfair or unwarranted attack, there is the choice to BLOCK a user that you find distasteful. I'm sure celticNgal will see that available choice soon ... I noticed it after about five days.

a "support forum" and read where someone said if they had a 9 mm gun they would shoot the other person in the head

Surely, I hope, just one random 'nutter'.

In all my ten days here, I have seen a troll operating/posting in two forums but everyone dismisses him, fobs him off and tells him to pull his head in.

He's said nothing in response to me AS YET ... but should he crap me off, I'll just use the "BLOCK USER" feature.

Thanks for the info on the button RW. I didn't know it was there or I would have used it yesterday. I have found some very nice supportive people as well.

I can tell you that you have come to a good place! Don't let a few "bad apples" spoil the bunch, most on here are more than willing to help you through you're dark time and help out in any way possible. You will be fine!:)

I joined this site back in Feb. as my surgery was in March. At the time I didn't see very many things negative. I have begun seeing some in the past few months, but as a whole, I think the site is more of a place to gain support and offer each other ideas that help us in the interim... Usually, I work to ignore the negative. But ...

I was banded in 2007 and revised to a sleeve. I agree that the community has changed a lot since then but i think there are still good supportive people here. Ignore the idiots and negativity and take whst you actually need. Best advice i have. Good luck!

I just joined this site yesterday and I was surfing the forums, and I couldn't help recognizing all of the fighting...is this normal? My doctor recommended this site as a source of support as I start this journey, but I'm not so sure. Is this site always so negative?

I used to be really active of here, but like you said there has been a lot of negativity. There was a mass exodus a few months back because some of the "senior" members got upset over something that Alex did. Things did settle down a little but then started up again. I try to stay positive in my posts here. Give it a chance. There are some great positive people that are willing to help and give you encouragement.

I found this site just before my surgery. Next month will be 1 year post op RNY for me. For me, the good here outweighs the negativity.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
