New kid on the block!

Hi Everyone!

I'm new to the site and love all the positive info. I hope to be banded before the 1st of the year. Just started hoop jumping.

I'd love to hear from anyone in Louisiana. I'm from Kenner (just West of New Orleans) Being overweight down here in THE BIG EASY is a way of life. The last 4 generations of my family have all had weight problems, not to mention heart disease, HBP, diabetes etc. I'm ready to STOP THE MADNESS, and pray my children won't have to suffer.

Sounds silly...but my only concern is this: I sleep on my stomach. Will I be able to feel the band? After I lose some of the cushion???

Thanks for being there,

Welcome Kennergirl - Congrats on making the decision to get banded.

You will be able to sleep on your tummy once you are all healed up from surgery (a couple of weeks) - it's your port site that hurts the most - it's tender really - I don't feel the band it's inside - i do feel my port site if i bursh up against something hard..

I too am a tummy / side sleeper - I was able to get on my tummy side maybe a week out...

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
