EMERGENCY! NEED URGENT REPLY! Hurricane Irma -- what can I eat without refrigeration?

Recommended Posts

Hello all. I am from the Tampa Bay area, and I have been forced to evacuate. However, this location is all but certain to lose power and I expect to have zero electricity for days or weeks when I return home. I'm still in the puree stage, which means nearly everything I need to eat has to be refrigerated. Does anyone know:

1. If I can't keep milk cold, can I make my Unjury shakes with Water? I have both chocolate and vanilla flavors.

2. If I have time, can I make the shakes in advance and put them in the freezer so they will stay cold longer?

3. If worse comes to worst, and I can't puree my foods, do you think something chunked like canned tuna or chicken would be OK for my stomach? I would chew it very well.

4. Do I need to keep eggs refrigerated? I know they don't refrigerate them in Europe, but there might be a difference between American and European eggs. If they're not refrigerated, I can scramble them using a skillet on the propane grill.

5. Any other advice?

I need answers as quickly as possible. If the power and cell service goes out, I will have no way of checking this website.

eggs don't have to be refrigerated.. they'll keep for a couple weeks if kept at least a little cool (like 70 degrees.. not 90).

Premade Protein Shakes are going to be fine (if they are not found in the refrigerator section in the store).

You CAN mix powdered Protein in Water, and get some powdered milk to add as well.

Canned food will be your best bet. At first it's smooth Soup like cream of mushroom (strained), applesauce, etc. Then you'll be adding chunkier Soups. Canned fruit, veggies, all that.

Canned tuna and chicken once you are onto soft foods. Get tiny packages of mayo since it will spoil out of the fridge (maybe the single-serve packets like they have at fast food joints). Pickles don't spoil quickly.

Adding unflavored Protein Powder to creamed Soups will be very doable. Really do your best to keep your texture what you need it to be during your phases. In other words, if you are on puree, it's better to eat apple sauce than unblended canned chicken. The low carb, low calorie part is for weight loss, and that can WAIT. The SMOOTHNESS is for stomach healing, which CANNOT be rushed!

Stage 1 and stage 2 baby foods should be good too! Stay safe and take care of yourself most importantly make sure you get your fluids in.

I was sleeved in July and we had weeks over 115 degrees here in Aug. I took measured Protein powder around with me and had bottled Water. I added the water to the powder and that helped me feel better and get my protein and fluids. Does it taste good? No. It keeps you alive and strong.

You don't have to refrigerate the horizon single serve milks.

Canned meat will be your friend.

At the very least I would load up on RTD Protein Drinks (the ones that come in a can bottle etc). They dont need to be refrigerated, easily portable, and will be a solid source of calories hydration and Protein.

Lots of Protein powders are Water only. If desperate can drink up & go or equivalent as these don't need refrigeration (but lots of sugar so not really the best). You could buy some jelly cups, baby food, fruit cups, cup a Soups, canned tuna, canned chicken. You could freeze some soups that are still yummy cold. Also you can put long life milk that doesn't need refrigeration until after you open it. If you can still cook the canned soups with added portion powder is good too. Good luck!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
