That's right, my husband said since I got banded 10-12-07, that I have bad breath. I brush daily! Never had this problem before. Am I dehydrated? The most liquid I can get down in one sitting is about 3 oz. and I'm not even sure I know how to sip. I feel bloated and uncomfortable after I drink and it doesn't go away for hours. :help:

I haven't noticed my breath but since surgery I have noticed my feet are stinky and my armpits smell bad too at the end of the day. Sorry, gross I know. It's weird because I hardly sweat at all and I used to sweat all the time.

Most likely (from the low carb diaries) is that you have the sought after KETOSIS breath! :)

It is normal, when your body switches to the FAT burning machine it can be. Ketosis is when your body starts burning stored fat instead of carbohydrates.... usually if you start a Low Carb eating plan Ketosis will hit within the first week.

Breath Mint Anyone?

Your body is probably in ketosis ..the same thing happens when you're doing I low carb high Protein diet like Atkins. Or, as you said, you may be a bit dehydrated. Not much you can do about it, except suck on a sugar free mint or listerine strip.

The opposite has happened to me ..not that I have good breath or anything ..I mean ..I seem to be more sensitive to how other peoples breath smells. I have known my hubby for 15 years and never once knew him to have bad breath. It seems lately, his breath smells, to me, all the time, but no one else seems to think so and he's doing nothing different.

I've noticed myself w/bad breath. I never used to have bad breath (or at least that I'd noticed). :) But, now I do! I have a brush at work, and carry mints.

In Atkins I learned that if you're in Ketosis you're breath will be bad. I've wondered lately if the weight I'm losing has anything to do with that, chemically....? <shrug>

It was on my list to ask my doctor Friday, but I forgot! :) I'm anxious to see what people say.

I am also concerned about breath. Had my surgery on 10/10/07. I've been brushing more often and have asked my close friends and family to let me know if I need some mouth wash. I agree that it is ketosis breath.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
