SippinAintEasy 78 Posted September 9, 2017 So I am 4 weeks post op. Doing just fine. I did "accidentally" have some chicken this week. (I thought it was included in my soft food diet as long as I chew it to liquid. Same with tuna.) When I had the tuna and chicken, it was super moist and chewed to liquid and I tolerated it just fine. What I'm wondering is if it's dangerous to keep doing so? Am I putting undue stress on my little tummy/staple line? Or if I am tolerating it just fine, does that signify that I'm ready for it as long as I stay the chew-to-liquid course? Any input appreciated!

Stick to your plan, It can not get simpler than that, no one would advice you to go against your plan. Different plans include different things, depending on the surgeon. You can not go wrong just doing what you are told, you made a mistake , its okay, but stick to your plan now you know its not on your plan "I tolerated it just fine" To be honest, I just tried to stick to the plan, because you do not know how your body is reacting sometimes till its too late, and the damage is done It does not signify your ready if your surgeon does not feel you are lol. SippinAintEasy 78 Posted September 9, 2017 Thanks. It truly was accidental. Not accidental that I put it in my mouth, but accidental in that I thought it was "allowed." Back to eggs and cottage cheese.

I understand Now I am on solids, I really realise the art of paitence, there really is no rush, you will get to the point of being able to eat some things and then no longer want it lol Take your time , you are in what I felt like was a superhuman phase, I had never gone that long without eating before lol. You are doing great. Keep going

Any input appreciated!I just started the soft food/puree phase when I was 15 days out. I'm allowed tuna salad, chicken and egg salad, runny scrambled egg, sweet potato. So far I've been mostly having chicken salad and tuna salad for my meals. dinner was TJs reduced guilt chicken salad (I think it has a couple naughty ingredients like shredded carrots but in tiny amounts) and 2 oz of sweet potato. I also put small chopped pickle in my tuna salad to make it interesting. Also naughty but works so far and tastes yummy. Double check it isn't included. UCLA's food schedule seems to be one of the most strict and like I said I can have chicken salad. Not chicken by itself but finely chopped soft chicken and plain Greek yogurt instead of mayo. Also allowed soft fish among other things. Soft fruits like banana and cantaloupe. 1 SippinAintEasy reacted to this
SippinAintEasy 78 Posted September 10, 2017 Thanks,@KateBruin. It's crazy how different everyone's plans are. I think that's where I got confused. Reading all these posting boards, it seems pretty common that tuna/chicken salad are common. I'll call my NUT this week to double check. I'm fine sticking with the other soft foods, except I just FELT so much better with the concentrated substantial whole food nutrition in my body. If I can keep sampling chicken/tuna salad, I think my family would love me a little more these next couple weeks. 1 bluepixie2038 reacted to this
Pescador 1,374 Posted September 10, 2017 BEWARE? I had a bite of moist juicy chicken about 7 weeks out, per my plan, and it lodged in my throat. I could not breathe. I ran thru the house like a crazy person, it moved down and I could breathe. I dearly love white chicken, but it lodges in my chest four years post sleeve. I no longer plan to eat it, because just recently a rotisserie chicken just reminded me.
jaminator 262 Posted September 10, 2017 White meat chicken has been a no go for me since the surgery. I tried chicken kabob and it felt like a rock and the only time I've felt like vomiting. Dark meat chicken work fine for me. 2 ezza86 and graziellabs reacted to this

Missy161 395 Posted September 10, 2017 By 4 weeks my surgeon let me have steak so I think you are fine. By the second week I could have tuna. Every plan is different but chewing is the key I think. Mich WHw 223, SW 217 CW 184 GW

Mich WHw 223, SW 217 CW 184 GW 135So funny. I'm no steak under any circumstances for at least 3 months. Luckily I don't eat much so it's not a big deal. 1 graziellabs reacted to this
Missy161 395 Posted September 11, 2017 We had a special dinner planned so I asked him and he said go ahead just chew really well. I got a filet and it was so tender and didn't bother me a bit. At 3 months I can eat anything I want to try and hardly anything bothers me. Mich WHw 223, SW 217 CW 184 GW
AZLoser 103 Posted September 15, 2017 You can end up in the hospital in emergency surgery by advancing too quickly. It happens frequently to people who think it doesn't really matter. It is a big deal so don't do it.
Pescador 1,374 Posted September 15, 2017 4 years post sleeve chicken still chokes me. When I was first cleared for chicken, I cooked it slow in the crockpot, very soft and juicy. It stuck in my chest, and I could not breathe. It was horrible!!! Finally decided. I am giving up chicken, unless it is nibbling on chicken salad.
SippinAintEasy 78 Posted September 15, 2017 Thanks everyone for your input. I did not eat anymore of the chicken, based on your advice. It was dark meat that was super duper tender and chewed in small bites to liquid, which is probably why it didn't bother me at all. (I look forward to trying it again in 10 days when I'm cleared for solids.) But regardless, it was a good reminder to stay the course and review all the materials consistently so as to not inadvertently put myself in danger.
