Experiment until you can find one you can tolerate. You don't have to like it, just tolerate it. I used Muscle Milk Light (Vanilla Creme) powder blended with Water and a half a banana. That worked for me. Very similar to what I advised in this thread yesterday, James. My words were, as I recall: "The shakes may not be perfect but they are a way of doing a job." "They are there for your greater good." "I just psyche myself up and take it."
Cmal 3 Posted September 9, 2017 I hated all the protien shakes I've tried. They all smell and taste like baby vomit and chemicals to me. I purchased unflavored Bulksupplements Pure Grass-Fed whey Protein Isolate powder. I mix it with almond or skim milk, frozen fruit and stevia to taste, also use the sugar free surups like Torani. The powder doesn't really have any taste or smell. Finally I found one I can drink.
catcat0718 0 Posted September 9, 2017 I will have to try that when I get back home to Florida. I'm in PA right now where I had my surgery . Decided to stay here until Irma passes through.
dreamynow 136 Posted September 9, 2017 I love the BariWise Protein Drinks from diet direct. I only do vanilla and chocolate. For Breakfast I add Decaf expresso hot Water an a little ice and ninja it. Delish. All the bariwise stuff is great. They have weekly sales too. I've had their Soups and pancakes.
Michelle'sgarden 34 Posted September 9, 2017 I drink the Isopure green tea Protein Drink it has 40 grams of Protein. But you need a lot of ice to cut through it. It is pricey: $44 for a case of 12 drinks. I wasn't able to keep down any other Protein Powder, mix or drink except muscle milk 2 FluffyChix and lulubellhatfield reacted to this
Apple1 2,572 Posted September 10, 2017 I really like the Chike High Protein coffee Mocha flavor. I use two scoops with 12oz of unsweetned chocolate almond milk and 3-4 ice cubes. Throw it is the blender and It is not bad at all. I drink one everyday for breakfast. 1 Maggie1955 reacted to this

lindat720 7 Posted September 11, 2017 Hello, So, since I can't tolerate Carnation Instant Breakfast, my surgeon's office recommended that I try a water-based Protein supplement like Isopure from GNC. So, I bought a bag of "Strawberries & Creme" protein powder from GNC the other day. Put simply, I'd rather drink Pepto Bismol straight from the bottle than try that Isopure garbage ever again. I specifically asked the cashier lady at GNC "which one isn't the worst?" and she recommended this flavour of Isopure. Does anyone else have any recommendations about protein drinks? [/quote I like the nectar brand it's not too bad. The Vanilla bean is good and they have a lot of different flavors. I mix them with Water. You can by individual packets for 3.00 to try the flavor. kristin_pasley 45 Posted September 11, 2017 Premier Protein is the most tolerable. Their caramel kind is pretty awesome compared to others. I'm starting week 2 of my 2 week pre-op diet and I'm dreading it. 5 shakes and no food at all is going to be rough. Good luck to you!Sent from my Pixel XL using BariatricPal mobile app 1 Smores reacted to this
go_dawgs55 10 Posted September 11, 2017 Isopure is horrible. . . My doctor recommended Unjury which I can stomach a whole lot better. Sent from my SM-N910P using BariatricPal mobile app
gymnastics junkie 4 Posted September 11, 2017 I'm allergic to dairy so I use one sold at Whole Foods called Vega One (I use soy milk). When you add half of an avocado the shakes come out very creamy. I add a banana, too. Lifetime Fitness sells a couple of dairy free ones but I find Vega One to be smoother--not at all gritty. 2 Rainbow_Warrior and robin125 reacted to this
GeneralDisarray 34 Posted September 11, 2017 I don't mind Premier Protein drinks. As far as powders are concerned, there's Protein isolates, which will always have a bitter flavor, and then there's just the Proteins (usually a bit less expensive), eg plain old whey protein, which is pretty good. There's also egg white protein (bulksupplements.com sells it) which is fairly flavor neutral. The best tasting traditional whey protein I've found it in the bulk foods section of WinCo.If you mix your own shakes in a base of almond or coconut milk (almost water), add a little vanilla, sweeten with sucralose or Monk Fruit, it's actually pretty good. It just takes a little effort. Once you can use skim milk, they're even better. I don't even mind the protein isolates, if I can use skim.Good luck!FYI Lono for Life instant bone broths also have 10 mg protein per serving. Immediately post-op, those were a lifesaver for us.Sent from my ONE A2005 using BariatricPal mobile app 1 Autumnsnow reacted to this
jess9395 5,449 Posted September 11, 2017 You have to keep experimenting till you find one you can tolerate even though you may never "like" one. And by tolerate I literally mean it doesn't make you actually throw up. That's tolerate, not it tastes gross or smells bad. This is one of those suck it up and do it things. That said, I like chike, Quest and Syntrax matrix. Can't stand Isopure or premier, so everyone is different. Nashua Nutrition will sell you a sample of any brand and flavor they carry for $1 each. 1 slimthick reacted to this
