Middle of the night panic attacks?

Recommended Posts

My Surgery is 6am Monday morning I'm thrilled beyond belief was easily approved after meeting all requirements was met. I've worked very hard to get to this point. However as of last night I woke up at 2am in a panic Mindset with what in the heck am I doing? All the negatives just keep circling in my mind. I got up and pushed back those thoughts but my question is. .. outs this normal, just nerves getting the best of me? I'm not afraid of the surgery so not sure what's going on because I've been at this for over a year and, for the most part posiTive and exciting why now?

I think many people have some anxiety right before surgery - a week or so - because it's getting "real". It is still surgery with all the risks and anesthesia - both of which have real risks. While I know some say they never got nervous or panicky, I did. And I've had 2 c-sections, ankle reconstruction, multiple arthroscopic surgeries to knees, removal of part of a thyroid, and another abdominal surgery prior to this. I'm no stranger to the surgical suite -but I was concerned.

You've got this. Deep breaths. It will be fine. Best of luck.

Thank you so much for the reassurance!

Wow, I feel the same way. I'm starting my two week diets, and basically had a last hurrah of food comas to last me to rapture. Now, I'm getting focused and the thought of the foods I used to eat and the amount is all gonna change. Just make sure you have a good support team. I'm also available to talk to personally if ya need to. Good luck! We're in this for the long run! :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
