I got my surgery date October 11

Recommended Posts

Wanted to see if anyone else has that date or close to it so we can do the pre-op together. I also have to have my gallbladder removed. I excited and scared at the same time. I was reading an article yesterday that says individuals that undergo weight loss surgery will start to regain after 5 years. I'm not sure of the percentage but it was rather high. I been reading other post on here and hearing a lot of people being disappointed in having hunger come back and have to be prescribed appetite suppressants. I can't understand how the hunger comes back if you have the surgery. Is it true that the stomach stretches? Some say yes, some say no. This is a major surgery and I'm paying out of pocket so this is a major investment for me. Just want to see how others are feeling about all this...

Hi there! I am scheduled for October 3rd and I will have it at UMMC in Baltimore. I need to start my pre-op liquid diet next Tuesday and I am a bit nervous because I don't want to fail at this. So if you are still looking for a gsv buddy, I would be interested.

10/4 for me [emoji1380][emoji1380] I have also read that but I strongly believe it's due to returning to poor eating habits and little to no exercise surgery is a tool for success and not the only factor and some people fail to realize that my aunt had the surgery done 10 years ago and she's rained a slender 120 lbs but she walks everyday and continues to follow a low Calorie diet if she wants McDonald's she goes for the "kids meal" and not the Big Mac and large fries [emoji489] make good choices and success will be in your future congrats to you and many blessings [emoji324]

My wife had lap band surgery more than five years ago she lost over 100 pounds, she got to her goal weight and has not gained an ounce over that. She's doing great, has energy eats what she wants and still maintains her slim waist. I know we can gain our weight back but if we're re diligent I think it will be successful.
I've seen plenty of people gain their weight back, but that doesn't have to be us, my wife is proof of that.

I’ve got my follow up tmrw for from assessment that I took with the psychologist. If all goes well, I have my last required appt on oct 16, then they can submit to insurance for approval. I’m praying I can get this done before the end of year! I can’t think of a better way to start 2018! Good luck to you October sleevers!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
