Welcome!

Basically the point of a liver-shrink diet is to make surgery safer for you. The best way to make this happen is to go on a very strict diet for a period of time before surgery.

The diet needs to be very low carbohydrate and very low fat. Pretty much just Protein and non-starchy vegetables (no fat added to the veggies).

Using the Protein Powder is a good idea for saving money. Mixing the powder into 8oz skim milk twice a day is the simplest way to make your shakes. You can also blend it up with skim milk and ice. sugar free flavoring syrups (like you'd add to coffee) can add flavor.

This is a good time to get used to reading labels. Look at calories, fat, carbohydrate, and protein content. You are learning skills now that will help you for the rest of your life.

Good luck!

Yes there's many kinds of Protein. It may be easier to use the pre made shakes but it's much more beneficial and cheaper to buy a good protein powder, but you have to read labels and find the one with most protein per serve with lowest carbs sugar and fats..

If money is no object then go for whey isolate

But whey concentrate is fine unless you have lactose intolerance.

With powder you can mix it with Water or milk or even yoghurt it will last longer than a shake drink and shouldn't cost more than $35 four 1kg which will make 30 shakes at $1 a shake.

Most people I know choose Optifast but my doctor said any good quality protein will be fine and I looked at optifast it had too much sugar for me!

Also after the operation you will still need protein powder whilst on liquids for a few weeks but some still use it long term :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
