I was given Toradol (Ketorolac) IV and tablet prescription after I was discharged. Worked great!

Thank you for mentioning this! IV Tylenol was amazing!! Everyone should ask for this as part of their pain management.

IV Tylenol and advil are staples for bariatrics where I work. Every patient gets them (OFIRMEV and CALDOLOR)

Im surprised they're not more commonly used tbh

I've heard sometimes insurance is reluctant to cover IV Tylenol because of the expense.

As for Advil... I'm shocked! Most doctors don't advise NSAIDS post op!

I was shocked how amazing it was! Oral Tylenol does little for me so I didn't expect much... WOW and no nausea which I get from narcotics. Trouble is it's really expensive for some reason

It expensive long term but in the grand scheme of things it's not bad. 12$ a dose is what it was a few years ago. I checked into it when I worked ICU.

Oral NSAIDS is the problem because of the redesigned digestive track. With IV advil you're bypassing all that and going directly to the blood stream

The only pain I had was the incision the surgeon removed my stomach from. It was sore but I was able to deal with the pain. I don't like taking narcotics. When I went home the Dr. wanted to prescribe Percocet. I declined the script opting for oral Tylenol. A week later I still have the bruise by the incision but no pain.

I'm not crazy about it being out patient. But every one is except gastric bypass with these doctors.

I was sleeved on 8/30 and stayed overnight.... In the hospital they gave me liquid Norco for pain.... You can absolutely stay overnight if you are not ready, for me it took too long for the anesthetics to wear off and I could barely stay awake long enough the same day to walk my 30 required laps around the unit. I went in with every intention of leaving the same day trust me! As for at home I was given tramadol and I think I used it once before switching to regular Tylenol. Walking is your best friend when it comes to pain!

I was on a Fentanyl drip for about 24 hours post surgery. It was a PCA so I controlled when I got the meds. Once I was given my leak test and allowed to drink they switched me to Norco tabs which is basically Viocoden. I mostly took it at night to sleep after the first couple days home.

I had dilaudid by IV for 24hours but only used it three times. Tylenol by IV every 6 hours and they gave me another pain med that was not a narcotic. They sent me home with hydrocodone but I never took it. I did by liquid Tylenol for home.

It's crazy some of you were sent home with dilaudid! I was given PCA IV dilaudid every 8 minutes for about 12 hours. I hardly used it because it make me feel too wonky with the leftover anesthesia and would set off my o2 alarms. I basically hit it before I peed, went for a walk or had a nurse help me turn sides.

Went home with liquid oxy. Used about 2-3 days from time to time. Mostly to help me sleep cause it knocks me out. And once maybe 2 weeks later because my body started rejecting a suture and it's currently protruding from my incision. Very uncomfortable. Vomited up oxy once.

Given liquid Tylenol but I think Tylenol sucks and the liquid tasted so disgusting I gagged.

Spent one night. Really had hardly any pain because my back hurt so bad from the hospital bed. I needed the PCA just for that!

I had no pain meds till I got to my room upstairs. Then, I had a morphine pain pump, IV Tylenol.

I felt nothing from the morphine. But I think they program it based on your initial pain level, and I rated mine at a 2.

Right before discharge, they gave me an oxycodone and prescription for 30. I took one that night, because that's what most people seem to do. Take one to help sleep.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
