How long before you can have sex again? My doc says whenever I feel up to it, what did you guys experience? If you don't mind me prying lol

I waited til 3 weeks. Incisions were still a little sore but I just put a pillow under my tummy for the first time.

First time after surgery wasn't good (I felt like I was losing my virginity all over again - I wasn't able to get lubricated...) Our hormones are all crazy and our estrogen levels are going crazy too...I also wasn't in the mood. My sex drive was low.

Second time after surgery though...it was amazing. I guess the first time was just awkward because it had been like a month since I'd had sex and we were worried about the incisions and surgery and all that stuff. But it's been great since! lol

I am only a week out and my wife is pressuring me for it. I really do not have the desire or the energy right now. However, I know she needs the intimacy and closeness. I don't want to rupture my suture line and croak mid sex.

lol @Walter.Sobchak a week is too soon! I was still holding my abdomen two weeks out while walking because I was still healing and sore! Tell her to cool her jets and wait a couple weeks!

It's super hard to be intimate and close after surgery...I couldn't cuddle or sleep on my side with my boyfriend until 3+ weeks after surgery.

I had insomnia and could only take naps on my back. Getting in and out of bed was a painful chore the first few weeks.

Good luck!!! Don't rush it lol

That's what I am saying.
I am not overly sore, but sore enough.
And like I said, I have no desire to right now.
She is down 80 pounds since her sleeve and pre op diet so she wants it all the time.
I am half dead and trying to heal and get healthier.
I am hoping my sex drive comes back once I get some weight off, but I am damn near 40 and might be past my prime.

I have been dealing with insomnia too! I'm 4 weeks out and it's still a problem. My incisions are pretty much healed and no more pain but the insomnia is driving me nuts. Tend to get super tired in the afternoons so I nap and then can't fall asleep at a normal time .[emoji20]

I had sex the first day I came home from the hospital. Sex has only gotten better, it's awesome!! Hubby is too thrilled. 17 days post-op. Sleever. No issues at all. Position matters, lol.

Thank you, I am doing pretty good today.
I told my wife maybe tomorrow when I don't have work.
I am hoping things just continue to get better.

@Allie589 the insomnia goes away. You're body is just adjusting to everything. From what I read, it's because your sugar levels are low and you're body produces this hormone called ketones when you're body is like depleted of sugar and it gives you energy...putting you're body in ketosis (this causes the insomnia). I dealt with insomnia for the first 3-4 weeks because I was on a liquid diet. Once I started introducing foods into my body, it went away.

I had it a week out and was fine - just have them be careful and all is good. :)

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
